You can replace the battery with no problems. Stored pictures are 'flash' memory and require a charge to DELETE.

Have you checked your "time out" or "shut down" settings.

It could be the battery, but if it's LIon it should last 4 years with no problem.

I would suspect the battery. If the camera is under warranty then take it back. If it is not, then go to ebay and search under cameras -> batteries for NB-4L. Here in AUstralia I saw them there for around $10 - 15. If you are in the US then I expect they will be even less. Get a new battery , fully charge it and see how you go.

If you have never used ebay before, get some help from someone who has, don't try to go it alone.

I had the same problem with my Minolta. You need to get into the programing and set the time for it a little longer. I can't tell you how to get there cause I don't know anything about your camera and when I found it on my camera, it was by accident. Either get out the manual or just start playing with it.

you're in all threat utilising the incorrect kind of batteries. undemanding alkaline kind batteries at the instant are not solid sufficient to run a digicam for long, so which you're able to the two purchase rechargeable NiMH (extreme skill, 2500mAh) or non rechargeable lithium consisting of Energizer suited Lithium....in case you like longer battery existence.

You need to set shutoff time longer. It sounds right for a couple of minutes of shut off time. It is the default shutoff time.
