I was watching the news about the 3rd teenager to be shot, and apparantly there are "gangs" of teens who carry guns and knives.
I'm from County Durham, am a teen and NEVER heard of anything like this before.
How can they want "respect"? How can they be able to get guns?
I was amazed at this and the previous incidents and wondered what your thoughts were?
Thanks

vinny171983 - indeed, people in the UK can only get a gun on special license on certain conditions (criminal record and such)

The guns which are being used on the streets by teenage gangs are coming from the 'replica gun' industry. These are in effect guns without firing pins which are then modified so as to be able to fire rounds of ammunition. These modified replicas can be purchased for around £50 per hand-gun and for around £500 for a sub-machine gun.

The authorities in UK only know about fining us motorists and making the lives of law abiding citizens difficult to near impossible, so that 5 and a half million of us left these shores for good last year. Not surprising really, considering that crime is now completely out of control.

What was that Blairite slogan again? "Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime."

So Tony, what happened to the Big Idea?

Hasn't anyone noticed that this has all started since hand guns were banned in the UK...
They have driven guns underground...
So now instead of being safely locked up in a gun safe they are hidden and imported like their is no tomorrow.
Whats more the punishment for having illegal guns is not hard enough....
In other words the law is an ***....
And if you look at other countries that banned guns they all went bad really quickly....
Just like we are......
God help us all....

Guns are sold illegally everywhere, there is always a problem when a
teen with problems gets hold of a gun, and then a crime gets committed.....

Guns kill, and as such should only be carried by people who are responsible.....

you dont do drugs then? you dont have pressure from your peers to comply with their requests.. you havent ever been a runner, delivering smak and crack to inner city estates... and you certainnly arent gullible and impressionable...

and for all these things you should be grateful. i live in coventry, and i work in the community on a chav estate. and while we dont have the guns as yet, we have everything else... and if i remember around christmas we has 3 murders.. young kids getting whacked...

where do they get the guns, off the kosovans, off the albanians, off teh turks, (im part greek) off the jamaicans... and pretty soon i'm sure off teh shelf..

i see wannabes with BB guns hooked in their belts... looking hard i say... they just glare at me.. and think im soft..

what they dont know is that im an ex (convicted) armed robber... and i'm not impressed... these days i use a catapult, with 800foot pounds muzzle velocity, and i can split a pencil at 20 yards...

ive had loaded guns stuck in my face a few times, its a defining moment... pull the trigger.. its not like ive got anything to worry about, i'll be dead.

gun culture is kids playing games, only when i played cops and robbers the old bill didnt shoot first... and i only got 3 years...

times change.

Unfortunately, if you know the right people, anyone can lay their hands on an illegal gun. Usually sourced through drug dealers / suppliers. A sad fact of modern day life.

It probably would be best to tell people that gun ownership in England isn't like the U.S. See, here in the U.S., we give just about anybody a gun, why? Bceause if we try to pass a stricter gun law here every republican and hillbilly would raise hell with the common, "they trying to take our guns!" If I am correct, I don't think civilians are allowed to own guns in England.

They usually steal them or buy them from someone stole them. It's not the gun's fault it was stolen.
