I have posted several times regarding a root canal I had done Friday.

I was in severe pain Saturday and Sunday and Monday as well. Today the pain is better.
Sunday night I started to swell up. I had JUST started antibiotics Sunday as well.

My face is swollen almost to the point my eye is swollen shut. I went to my dentist today and he slit open a bump in the roof of my mouth and allowed it to drain some.

My question is, when will this swelling go away?! It has gone down some over a 2 day period. My eye doesnt look as if it is about to swell shut at any moment now.

At least the pain is better or I wouldnt be able to type, that is how severe it was.

Also, the place at the roof of my mouth feels like it is whole again, just a big fluid filled bump...

:(

I have heard there are dangers with such infections, with the pain subsiding am I out of the danger zone or no?

Your tooth was infected - it's strange that they would perform a root canal on an infected tooth, most endodontists that I've spoken to refuse to treat an infected tooth with root canal therapy unless it's absolutely necessary. Of course, this varies from endodontist to endodontist and I'm not one, I only know what I hear and they tell me.

Keep taking the antibiotics, you're on the right track, and as it seems like the infection is going away with the swelling going down, it would seem like you are getting out of the red. Call your dentist if it gets any worse or you stop getting better.

ADVISOR,
WHAT YOU HAVE DESCRIBED IS NOT UNUSUAL. THE FACT THAT THE PAIN IS GOING AWAY IS VERY GOOD.
THE SWELLING WILL GO AWAY IN A FEW DAYS. BY THE WAY, IF THIS TOOTH WAS AN UPPER FIRST MOLAR, THESE OFTEN TIMES HAVE A FOUR CANALS. A SECOND MESIO-BUCCAL CANAL MAY BE PRESENT WHICH MAY EXPLAIN THE BUMP ON THE ROOF OF THE MOUTH.
PAIN SUBSIDING IS A VERY GOOD THING AND YOU ARE OUT OF THE DANGER ZONE.
