assisted suicide...I would like to know your thoughts with respect to people who are considered competent and are in debilitating health conditions (physical or mental). You can reason in any way that you would like. I am interested in this subject for research, so I would like to read different opinions

I think that most of the people who campaign AGAINST assisted suicide have NO frame of reference what its like to be in extreme pain and/or a helpless vegetable with bed sores, crapping their diaper. There's nothing "sacred" or "noble" about that situation.

I think that people should be able to have their living wills honored, and according to the instructions given, receive an administered dosage in their sleep so they can just slip away quietly and painlessly.

I'm in no position to pontificate about self-administered suicides; whether the person was mentally ill or just totally depressed and without hope.

I seriously doubt that most people would have the courage to kill themselves like Hunter S. Thompson (and if you don't know who he is, go Google him).

We consider ourselves a "civilized" society; one that can execute criminals, euthanize pets we love, but somehow, we can't come to terms with assisted suicide.

What's up with that?

Part of me thinks its murder, while the other part thinks its a kindness. I've seen people drained and destroyed by cancer, suffering horribly, wouldn't want to live out the end like they have to do. We have so many drugs that can keep us alive, but for what? Just to suffer so terribly? The thing is, people who say they don't believe in assisted suicide many times change their minds when they're the ones suffering, but by then its too late to do it themselves, and the law keeps anyone else from doing it for them. So I just don't know, just pray no one I loves dies a painful, excruciating death that I can do nothing to alleviate.

It seems to me that there has to be a way to make assisted suicide, unassisted. I understand the need for tools to make the event painless and foolproof, but to have a doctor involved seems a bit selfish to me.

If I had to commit suicide, the last thing I would want is to burden others with the need for them to stand by. I understand that I wouldn't want anyone to have to clean up after me, but it seams that making them sit by and watch is just as bad.

I am personaly against assisted suicide and normal suicide no matter what your excuse is.We chose our life before we were born so i think that is why things are so unexpected. We suffer or are born for a few days or years and mabe we learned our lesson.?But that is the mystery of all time what are we here for?
I believe in one God and we have many names for him.Life is about learning the more you learn the stronger your spirit will become.Peace

It's wrong. My personal opinion has always been that suicide is cowardly. No matter what happens, a person should fight to stay alive, so that they can do some good in the world while they are here. A person shouldn't commit suicide, and they certainly shouldn't lay that burden on another person.

I believe in doing what is right. If it relieves suffering and is better for everyone then I think it is right.
The Bible says it is wrong but I know that God is big enough to understand.

fortuitously one can not be arrested or convicted for ones suggestions, yet can write about those eccentric suggestions and be critically acclaimed. "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" grow to be a marvelous e book/movie.

If they want to commit suicide, they should have enough guts to do it themselves
