Both. The Vedas contain the prayers and mantras recited by priests during special occasions. The Bhagavad Gita is a guide to both the material and spiritual existence, it puts everything in perspective.

None. Muhammad was not even born during the vedic period, so there is no question of any mention, every semetic relegion gives importance to the prophets as they do not believe that god is accessible to the mortals and has to be approached through such prophets which gave them such exalted status. Hindu is not a relegion it is a way of life, it is a celebration of being a human being. you are free to worship the god of your choice based on your mental make up. It is the true essence of freedom and responsibility, and moreover veda means science and every description is a scientific fact expalained in simple to understand form, since a layman cannot understand complex scientific theorem but is free to enjoy the technology arising out of it, the same way vedic scripts guides you to reach higher levels. One need not depend on any mortal to save him, it is the faith that moves mountains which can be experienced if and only if you have an open mind.. god bless all.

The vedas are the holy books, they are the authority.....

The main authorities in hinduism are 3.

the upanishands(last portion of the vedas)(srutis)

the bhagavat gita(smriti) and

the bhrahmasutras....

but if you are asking what is the bible of hindus or the qoran or the hindus,

the precise answer is the vedas. vedas are the bible of the hindus

if the concern is of scaredness , both are sacred, Vedas being the oldest and foundation(more or less) of Hinduism,,,
Vedas are complex , in depth and covers wide arrays of life, God and almost everything..

Bhagavadgeeta is relatively new, estimated at 3500 to 5000 years old and gives precise guidance to life(Karma theory) and spirituality..its a compass needed to sail the life..

It takes years to study Vedas..let alone understanding and analysing them...

Almost every Hindu is familiar with Bhagavadgeeta(read or recited) compared to the complex vedas which majority of us not even know what's in them..
