Stretch marks are caused by stretching of the skin, i.e. putting on wait or having kids. I have seen very slim women with stretch marks so I wouldn't get paranoid. There are creams that claim to lessen them but I don't think they go away completely.

Hi, its usually where the skin has been stretched (as in pregnancy, or weight gain) and then where the cause of the stretching is removed as in when the baby is born, or where there's been rapid weight loss. Why it happens to only half pregnant women or rapid loss of weight I don't know, but keeping the skin moisturised and exercising whichever part of the body its affecting (if possible) is supposed to help it go quickly.

Editing: There's a site here that claims their oil can do the job, whether its better than moisturisers - who knows.

Stretch marks occur when the skin stretches a lot within a quite short amount of time, e.g. during pregnancy, or when you quickly lose or gain a lot of weight (yeah, when you lose quickly too!) At first, they'll be an angry red, but they will gradually fade to a more silvery tone, which isn't so recognisable. Apparently, one product that helps tone down stretch marks is Palmer's Cocoa Butter (I guess any brand would help), so you could try that. Believe me, they'll fade so that you'll hardly see them :)

Your skin stretches when there is rapid growth or loss and your skin is dry, if you keep your skin really moisturized than you won't get stretch marks... trust me, I did it through my entire pregnancy and I don't have a stretch mark anywhere on my body. If you already have them, try some australian tea tree oil, they sell it at New Frontiers, it helps to lighten them and if used regularly can make them almost invisible. It also works on scars.

Stretch marks are caused by rapid stretching of the skin, usually from rapid weight gain. They are essentially scars, and they do not go away. There are creams that will minimize their appearance, but once made, they cannot be unmade.

Stretchmarks are tears that form on the inside layers of skin and eventually appear on the surface, usually from weight gain, rapid growth or pregnancy. Nothing you put on your skin will make them disappear because they happen from the inside out. Some people are more prone to them than others. If people in your family get them easily, chances are you will too. The only way to really make them fade is to lose weight (if that's what's causing them) have the baby (if that's what's causing them) or wait. In time they will fade until they're a little bit lighter than your skintone.

The cause is fast stretching skin. You cannot cure it, just cover it.

there is no cure per say, but cocoa butter, or mothers friend are two good products to keep on your stretch marks to help them fade or not get bigger.

palmers cocoa butter oil applied very frequently during pregnancy or any other time of rapid weight gain can reduce them, and it can be used on old stretch marks to fade them but it won't completely get rid.
