You have some odd answers. I would try again.
Yes you can split pills unless they are CR or XR meaning controlled release or extended release.
The products with oxycodone or Oxycontin are more addicting and more effective than hydrocodone.
Most of these medications are 5, 7.5, or 10mg of the heavy stuff.
You can buy a PDR for about $100 or a pill book for $10 that will explain all of this.

No. Oxycontin is a time release formula. It is designed for chronic pain (long term) The ingredient in Oxycontin is Oxycodone in time release encapsulation, slow to dissolve. The strength is supposed to be the same as taking 10mg every 8-12 hours, and it takes roughly 24 hours to reach that concentration.
Percocet and its many generic formulations is different in two ways. First the pain component can be either oxycodone, or hydrocodone, there are effectively the same. In the percocet the pain med is not mixed with a time release. It is designed to reach beneficial strength in about an hour and stay there for about another 5 hours. It also has Acetaminophen mixed in usually 500mg, this is also known as Tylenol. The Tylenol will also help reduce pain and it will reduce the inflammation of muscles.

The second thing you should be aware of is that splitting a time release pill is not exact. It is next to impossible to get the split right down the middle. Oxycontin is not made with a score line(break line) on the pill. I am not aware of any time release pill that has a score line because of the difficulty of breaking in half.
The pill splitter can help but Oxycontin can be as high as 100mg per tablet. If you split that you could easily have one at 40mg, and the other at 60mg. Also you risk splitting the time release coating which could put a higher dosage into immediate release.

DO NOT SPLIT OXYCONTIN! Oxycontin has a time released matrix. If that's broken with chewing, you'll ingest all of the drug. If it's split, you won't get the correct number of milligrams.
Percocet IS the same as Oxycontin... it just has tylenol added. Oxycontin is pure oxycodone. Percocet is a mix of oxycodone and tylenol.

Then talk with your doctor. Don't change or stop taking your meds without the approval and supervision of your doctor.

EVER.

That's aside from the fact that Percocet comes with three different strengths of oxycodone in additon to 325 mg of acetaminophen.

Oxy pills should not be split in two since they are designed to be a time released pain reliever. I used them after my back surgery, and my doctor told me this.

Oxy is way stronger than percocet which has a lot of Tylenol in the pill in addition to the prescription pain med.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and subscribe to Arthritis Today. In their last issue they included the annual drug guide. It clearly states that splitting any type of drug such as percocet, oxycotin, lortab, etc., can release a fatal dose. These are time release drugs, splitting them allows too much of the drug to be released into your system at one time. Don't split these drugs, EVER.

If your GP has advised you to do this I can't say anything but if you are doing it yourself then please stop doing it as both have got different potency and also their generic composition is generally different. Usually we can split tablets into two if there is a engraved marking in the middle of the tablet, this is done by the pharmaceutical company so to provide ease of use. Usually this is done if the product have no alternative or reduced potency dose.

PLEASE DO NOT EVER SPLIT OXY IN HALF! Just take the percocet if that is what helps the most. I know other people have explained the reasons to you as to why you shouldn't split it. Please listen to them. You could really hurt yourself. I don't know why doctors and pharmacists tell people this more often.
