If it is serious enough you can go to your doctor and get medication for it. If it is mild, then you can just force yourself to be with people until it becomes old hat.

Whenever you feel nervous, ask yourself what specifically you're afraid of. Many times it's the fear of looking foolish to others. Now tell yourself that the worst that could happen is that you make a mistake and everyone does so it's not that bad. Envision yourself having a good time and making new friends. Now go out and be what you saw in your vision, confident and friendly. Once you've had some good experiences, you can draw upon those for confidence until you no longer need the reassurance.

Not really sure, but am certain that Yahoo!Answers? is not going to help.
My guess is that you will get answers to this question that will tempt you to turn off your computer for good.
Do you have any friends around. If so stick with them and try to broaden your social group through them.
If not, then it will be tough. Just know that it is alright to be nervous in social situations, most of us are. You don't have to be the center of attention, you don't have to be loved by all, and the social situations you see on TV are mostly B.S.
Keep at it and you will find a set of friends you can be comfortable around. You will always be threatened by some types of people, but know that is OK, they are just not for you.

Not very much. If you have social anxiety disorder you are basically screwed.. It will not always be so difficult but it will definitely make your life a lot harder. The worst part is that no one will understand, they will think it is just being shy.. It is a completely irrational fear that is hard to control, in some instances nearly impossible.

Have a social life through the Internet. You won't marry or have children, and your career options will be limited, but you can still enjoy the Internet. So, join a chat room.
Or, just sit around and answer questions on Yahoo Answers. That's what I do.

Are you shy and if so try to find out why ? Have you ever seen a psychologist or a psychiatrist ? How do you see yourself, ugly, ungainly, far, uninteresting, uneducated ? You see ask yourself these questions. I would suggest you go and see a psychiatrist, who may also prescribe drugs that reduce inhibitions, just enough to get you over your shyness !

Get out and do it.
I used to be affraid to play music in front of people. I forced myself to start slowly. Now a few years later I play in a rock band and I don't even get nervous.
Go have a cup of coffee at a local coffee shop and hang out until you have a conversation with someone.

Don't be afraid. Simple as that.
Phobias are all in your head, right? So just don't be afraid any more.
