I am assuming you are referring to the '90's MkIV Supra.

One of the main reason's for their popularity is the movie The Fast and the Furious. The orange car that was rebuilt was a MkIV Supra.

Aside from that the Supra is an excellent platform to tune and modify. The robust inline six (2JZGTE) is ideal for tuning and can handle lots of horsepower before needing special internal componets (i.e. rods, pistons, crank etc.). It is theoretically possible to get 1000 rwhp out of a Supra before needing to modify internals. I have heard of Supras that, when modified correctly and highly tuned can easily take Lambos and Ferrari's. Originally the Supra was manufactured to compete in the same class as the 'Vette and Porsche 911.

Add to that an exotic look, a fairly hard-to-find car, single or twin turbos, and and a tone of modifications and you can see why the Supra is popular.

The MkIV Supra ceased to be sold in the US after 1998 because of low sales due to the shift from sports cars to SUVs. However, they were produced in Japan until 2002 (I think).

the 1st and 3rd guys are correct.

while they are very fast, theyre also overrated and overpriced (theyre starting to drop again though). the 2jz engine is great, but is just too small for a decent powerband at such high outputs, making them relatively slow for the amount of power they put out. (ie 1000+ hp cars barely breaking the 10 second 1/4 mile)
