My cat will just stare at the reflection of sunlight on the walls for hours. If it's within reach he'll attack it.

He also makes this weird clicking meow when he notices the sunlight. It's the only time he does that.

I need to keep my blinds open to let sunlight in because I don't have heat :'(

Poor college kid for the loss...

Your cat is in hunting mode. The clicking noise you describe is an instinctual thing that wild cats do when they are stalking prey.

You might want to invest in a cheap laser pointer and play with your cat interactively. It would help him satisfy his urge to hunt and bond with you at the same time.

Cats are naturally curious creatures.Your cat is merely intercepting the reflection as a real live creature. There brains are designed this way.If your cat is the only pet in your house than he or she is making the weird clicking noise as a sense that the reflection is the only company he or she has while your not there.Animals do acknowledge each other or what they perceive as another animal in a welcoming way or a threatening way. The reflection posses no threat to your cat so it is friend and not foe.

Video tape it and send it to Americas Funniest Videos. You might win some money to send the cat to therapy

why do you care if he plays like that? It sounds like your cat is in heaven and you are the only one distressed. Let him enjoy it. It is normal for cats to chase sunlight. Mine do.

My cat used to do this too. I came to believe that it was the subtle but continuous movement of the light that seemed to capture her attention.
