Why do people have to depend on drugs so much, such as heroin??

My b/f is a drug addict and its so hard for him not to stop using regardless if he goes to meetings, rehabs..anything? what else could he do?

herroin is the most addictive of all drugs. it is physically addictive as well as emotionaly addictive. it is hard to get off heroin. strong willl power and a need or reason to stay off helps. i know people that were hooked while pregnant and forced to stop. its a tough road. it can be done it just takes a lot of will power.

if that person is not ready to quit and doesnt have a good enough reason too, they may never stop.

sometimes its takes loosing everything that is important to you. for my friend, it was losing her house, her son, her job, her clothes, her husband, that pushed her to use again, and then the pregnancy of her second son, to stop her again.

I am a recovering addict myself. I have been clean for 8 months, and I hope that I will be for the rest of my life... A lot of factors make people inclined to become addicted to drugs and alcohol. There are biological factors that make some people become physically addicted very easily, emmotional problems and mental illness are also make people potential addicts.
He can go to countless meetings/ rehab, and never stop using unless he is truly ready to stop at all costs. He is probably genuine in his desire to quite, but unless he is ready to let go of it 100%, he will not have a chance. Let me tell you: it was the most difficult thing that I have ever done, and non-addicts cannot understand. There is absolutley nothing that anyone other than him can do to make him stop. There is nothing that you can say or do for him other than to just be supportive of him when he is ready to quit.

Because they are depended on it. Without it they can not survive. Mentally, physically, and emotionally. Picture yourself without food! You would become depressed, sick, and slowing die. Thats what its like.

Heroin is the worst drug of all. It is the easiest to get hooked on and one of the most expensive. Taking care of person who is addicted is not fun either. They start depending on you, as well as stealing from you to get money to buy more drugs. You want my opinion, break up with him before things start to get worse. There is no real way to help them. They have to seek it themselves and that is very hard to do. The ONLY way that could really work is to try an intervention. Get friends and family together and talk to him about his problem.

i was strung out for 7 years, i ended up with hep c. thank god i didnt get aids. my friends brother in law just died of an overdose to herion about 3 weeks ago. i hope your using condoms. see if you can find a methodone clinic. maybe that will help. alot of people just get addicted to the methodone though..... but i took it and got off ok. http://www.methadonetreatment.com/locations/

Escapism. You need to find out what's bugging him & how to cope with it. He also probably has a physical dependency to it as well. HE has to WANT to quit using. Life is worth living & I hope he gets better. I wish you the best of luck. You are going to need it.

They are addicted. They cant help it. They have to be ready to quit or rehab will be useless.

tell him to try accupuncture. my husband was a heroin addict, and i really believe that accupuncture saved his life. it was a long, hard process to to through, and it's never really over, but he's been clean for almost 3 years now.

The only thing else he could do is to really want to stop, and get the support he needs.
