I personaly have a tattoo with no real meaning except for the fact that I liked it alot. I have a few that I got for a reason and I kinda wish I didnt so think about it long and hard before you do. For my last one I had a friend who was an excellent artist draw it on me and I sported my fake tat for a while just to be sure I would like it on paper and on me . I'm sorry another tip no matter what people say some ppl look at you diffrent when they see your tats so If your in the job market get that thing where no one can see it or where it is easily hidden

Have you considered a henna tattoo? Maybe having the tattoo on temporarily may determine whether you really want it or not. It's just an idea. Or start with something small and hidden you can always add on or cover up with a different design. Choose a well known and respected artist.Good Luck!!!!! Oh and my second tattoo design had no meaning in the design, but i definitely love it now. It's a part of me and i would feel lost without it's presence.

I myself have 6 tattoos and I have a golden rule. If I find something I want as a tattoo I wait 6 months and see if I still like it then, if I do I go ahead and get it. Now 6 months may seem like a long time to wait but getting a tattoo that you don't like lasts forever or costs a arm and a leg to get removed.
Don't rush into tattoo's they are forever!

I have a lot of tattoos and I believe the most important thing to consider is....Am I going to still like this 20yrs from now? Not all of my tattoos have meaning, but everyone of them, except one (which I am getting covered this weekend), is a design that I know I will still like in the future because they are designs that I have liked my whole life.
So get the ones you want, meaning or not, just make sure you will always love the design.
Good luck.

If you don't think you'll regret it, then go for it. I have a little star on my left ankle, and it doesn't have any meaning. I just wanted it.
However, I always advise that once you know exactly what tattoo you want and exactly where you want it, you wait at least a year before actually getting it. I figure that if you still want it after a year, you're far less likely to regret it in the long run.

A tattoo doesn't have to have any significant meaning. Those kinds of tattoos are just generally preferred by most people. If you like the design and really want to do it then go for it.

I don't think everyone who has a tattoo chose their design for sentimental value. Some do but I'm willing to bet a good number of them simply just thought it was cool. Its only a bad idea if you have a habit of changing your mind on such things or getting bored with the things you do to yourself (i.e. hair color, piercings, etc.) because the tattoo is permanent. I imagine there's nothing like having some huge inked scar on your body that you're tired of or don't like that you have to look at for the rest of your life. So its more important to consider if you can live with it regardless of its meaning to you.

I have a friend who only gets tats he thinks are cool refuses to get tats with meanings. He says everyone he knows who got a tattoo for a meaning find it lme later in life cause they realized that flower or dolphin didn't mean that but people who get tattoo's they find cool are going to find them cool all there life you know? If uyou honestly feel you could find this tattoo cool forever do it and if you find it cool now did it qorst case scenrio you get a cover up :) But more than likely you'll aalways find it cool. Plus a design is nice you can build off of it and add things later on you know?

There doesn't always have to be great meaning or reason behind getting a tattoo. Go for it and enjoy the fact that you had it done just because you liked the look of it, after all it is a visual thing. Keep all the sentimental and emotional stuff in your heart not on your skin!!

I'd think one without a significant meaning would be more likely to be a tattoo you'd regret. That's no guarantee you wouldn't still like it (or that you'd still like one with a meaning), but I prefer to play the odds when I can. If you're the kind of person who's into spontaneity, this might mean less.
