Protecta Pad by Tomlyn is the best stuff out there. Professional Groomers use it as do many people who show their dogs. I use it on my dogs feet all the time, and especially after I shave their pads. Its a foot pad and elbow cream for dry cracked pads.
Why should I use Protecta Pad?
Protecta Pad softens and moisturizes. It is a fast-acting, GENTLE AND NATURAL remedy which penetrates into the sublayers of the pad to get at the cause of the problem...dryness. It's unique formula will soften calloused areas and increase the pliability of the pad, while maintaining the resiliency consistent with normal healthy tissue.
Protecta Pad was originally designed to protect and heal the pads and elbows of hunting and working dogs exposed to harsh environments. It will also benefit city dogs who walk mainly on cement and where sidewalks are treated with chemicals for ice removal. It's just as good for dogs who develop elbow joint callouses from sleeping on rugs or hard surfaces.
What does Protecta Pad contain?
Natural collagen protein to help maintain durability and flexability
Isopropyl palmitate to soften callouses
Stearyl alcohol to maintain moisture level
Lanolin to soften and protect by holding moisture in affected tissue

Bag balm. You can get in some grocery stores if not go to a farm supply store and look for a small container. Most farm stores sell it in gallon or larger tubs. You won't need near that much. Grocery stores started selling it when some one discovered the farmers daughter had soft hands. It is used by dairy farmers on the cows udder. What you don't use on the dog you will find good to use on you. After you use it the first time, you will know what I mean. Works well on dogs feet too. Comes in a square green colored tin.

PetCo has a product called "Paw Wax" for their pads. You can probably find something cheaper at a feed store that is even better and cheaper. Call one and ask what product they would recommend.
You don't want to use just anything because dogs lick their paws. Ask your Vet what to treat the cracked paw pad area with.

Vaseline is what I've always been told is a good thing to use. I don't understand why the dogs get cracked feet though, especially if they live inside? I have friends that have the same problem. My guess is it must have something to do with a diet problem.

put the dog in the tub and let the foot soak for a good 20 mins make sure your dog is tired so after he would just lay down and off the foot
when done get a sort of all natural NON FRAGRANCED lotion preferably baby lotion so it wont be toxic rub a good layer of that on and let him rest by morning it should have started to heal
good luck!

I like Egyptian Magic - its made for people, but you can use it on your pets. It's all natural. If the crack ends up bleeding, some people swear by that liquid bandage stuff. I'm iffy on that, because it stings like crazy - I tried it on myself and heard words I've never heard come out of my mouth before. Bag Balm - it comes in a green can also helps. Try to keep puppy of the salted streets for a while - that stuff tends to be really harsh on skin. Good luck.

Apply bag balm and put socks on the dogs foot to let the salve soak in. If the dog removes the sock, the bag balm is not toxic,so it will be okay if the dog licked it.

Balm. You can get it at the pet store or even at Walmart. If you're in a pinch you can use plain (read: just good old unscented) lotion, the cream kind meant to treat excessively dry hands works well.
