I have been vegan for th past 8 months. Today, my mom told me that I looked tired. I told her I had slept fine. About 10 hours since I had school off today. She said I also looked very pale, and that she noticed it for a long time. She thinks it is Anemia. She is a dortor in electrophysiology so I am sure she is correct. How do I treat it without medical tests and surgery. Suppliments? What do I do?

everyone is saying iron but that is not always the cause. there are other things in your diet that could be lacking. you need to be seen by a MD to diagnosis IF it is anemia you have. Please do not start taking supplements until you know for sure, supplements can cause serious health risk as well, just because they are 'natural' doesnt mean they are safe.

Take an iron supplement but not at the same time as your multi-vitamin - seperate the two by at least 3 hours.

Most of the dark green leafy veggies are iron rich so add more spinach, kale, arugula, etc.

Also, the test for anemia amounts to no more than a finger prick and can verify your condition. That's what I would do if it were me. Iron can be quite constipating and why would you want to take it if you do not need to?

You need to replace your iron. Supplements will tend to make you constipated and you can't always trust what's in them. A good source of iron is in spinach(raw or steamed), green leafy veggies and I think green peppers. And remember to get plenty of vitamin C to help absorb the iron.

There are different types of anemia, with different causes, so to find out which might be your problem, you need to have a blood test.
