That is an accurate price. About three years ago I replaced the clutch in my 1991 Wrangler (4.0 4x4) and it was about $1,100 because of the master cylinder. I checked around with several places, and they all quoted me around $1,000 bucks. It sucks, but it has to be done. Good luck.

Well it depends on where you live. Is that parts and labor or just the cluctch. Here is what he is getting into. YOu have what is called a transfer case that turns the 4 wheels at the came time. It is connected to the back of your trans and must be removed to get at the clutch. It is kinda like having 2 transmissions.
First you remove the drive shafts that turn all 4 wheels, then the transfer case itself. Once that is done he has to remove the transmission . In frount of that trans is the clutch.
If all that is for the labor and the price of the clutch then it is a fair price, again depending on where you live and what the hourly rate is.

The clutch for my Jeep cost me $150, took me 2 hours to install by myself. My buddies took 1 hour to install with both of us wrenching. But everything came apart nice and clean on ours, no stripped bolts or anything.
$1000 sounds pretty high, should be more like $500 + or - a little . Jeeps are really straight forward to work on, remove the shifter which hase a quick release clip, 6-bolts on the skid plate, 10- on the bellhousing, pull the transmission and transfer case (together as one piece), install clutch.

probably to get a new clutch and get it installed should run you between 700- 100 dollars just depends on your car. I had a clutch replaced by a cetified mechanic the other month and it was around 850 but its just pefect. so no your not getting ripped off unless its a jackleg on the side of the road fixing it for you

in the auto field prices varies from shop to shop all parts from dealer comes by items or individual pieces , the dealer gives shops 15-20 %discount . aftermarket parts is different some shops gets 25% discount so prices varies, labor is about three hours because it is 4wd it may be longer so it may be a little more .600 dollars sounds better . 1grand is too much.shop around.

Your vehicle is a four wheel drive,,making it twice as difficult to replace a clutch,,,so your mechanics estimate seems quite reasonable.

We paid $550 for a new clutch in our '88 Ford F150.
$1,000 sounds a little high to me...
Try calling other places, they should be able to give you a rough estimate.
