So we have a very pretty stray cat living in our garage. It has been there for about 6 monthes, but he won't come within 10 feet of anyone. What should we do with the cat?? My dad suggested trapping it (humanely, with one of the live traps with the cage and door) and taking it to the vet...

It's a feral cat at this point,it will not let you get close. Deciding what to do depends on what you want to happen. Do you want the cat off your property and away from you? If so, put some tuna in a live trap, the cat will go in,door goes down. Now, be prepared to carry the trap, because that cat is going to be going nuts jumping, scratching, defending trying to get away. It's blood pressure is going to sky rocket and at the very less, will suffer some permanent stress of humans. If you want the cat to hang out but not really pet it,then feed it daily and make sure it has water available. It will stay where it gets food and shelter,if you live in a cold area, provide some sort of home, old blanket and a box would at least help the animal from the weather. Now, if you want it gone and never to come back, you can do the live trap action with the cat going nuts and all, you could "shoo" it away every time you see it and make sure there isn't any food for it around your home, or you could contact your local animal control and see if they can trap and remove the animal. So, what do you want to do? I'm an animal lover, I know what I would do.

Yes a live trap and probably the shelter would be best. I know many people want to "save" the kittie, but a life outdoors is not safe. I would rather see a ferel cat euthanized humanely than hit by a car, mangled by an animal or suffer at the hands of inhumane humans.

Why take it to the vet? If you want the cat out of your garage, trap it and call the pound and have them come get it. If you don't care that the cat is there, just let him be. Not doing any harm being in there.

Stray cats and living house cats are completely distinctive. Stray cats have not got an proprietor so as that they don't comprehend extra advantageous. they are in a position to content cloth rabies from animals. you are not getting effected from a house cat's hair if it is going on your mouth. i've got accomplished that lots. no longer something got here approximately. in basic terms make confident the cat does not have rabies, or has a ailment.

I have 2 stray cats that I've been feeding since they were born and left by their mother. I couldn't get near them for 3 months, and I tried everyday. And it paid off, I fed them and I would sit about 6 feet away from them and eventually they came around. You need to devote some time, they have a great sense, and they'll know over time they can trust you. Give them some time with alot of attention. Good Luck!

Well, you can try trapping it and getting him his shots and spaying or neutering him/her... visit www.friendsofanimals.org for low cost spay neuter certificates... then,
kitty can remain an outdoor cat with the protection of shots against disease and knowing that he wont be making unwanted kittens....
then: you can try sitting down about 10 feet from cat, say, with a drink and a book: give cat some food, so he gets used to eating with you there, and allow him to relate to you and food: two nice things. eventually he may wander over to you and let you pet, dont chase him, let him come to you. Slow and steady wins the race....
feel free to shoot me a message with your progress, and I will help how I can.

Yes..humane trap and get HIM FIXED while he's at the vet. Or if you don't want that responsibility, trap him and take him to the animal shelter so he won't be out there making more homeless kitties!!

You may want to contact a Ferrell cat organization. They will come and get the cat spay or neuter it then bring it back and release it where they found it!!

it does not matter how cute you think it is. street cats carry diseases that will kill other pets living in the home. take it to the humane society for them to check out. while you are there, take a look at the healthy cats they have. one of them might look even prettier that you could take home.
