Perth is the capital city of Western Australia. They are having a real estate boom there at the moment with house prices rocketing. Check the Saturday edition of the West Australian newspaper online for information and advertisements for jobs.

Newcastle is a much smaller city on the east coast in NSW about 150km north of Sydney and 850km south of Brisbane. It is a growing city with a lot of development going on between Newcastle and Sydney. There is a newspaper in Newcastle but I can't remember its name. The Sydney Morning Herald is the main paper for NSW.

The Perth property market is going through the roof at the moment, with prices starting to catch up to Sydney. For example, a house around the corner from my parents in Subiaco just sold for close to 900 thousand. (Two bedroom 1920s cottage.) Property is a hot topic, so jobs there would be readily available. Aston Martin(I think that's what it's called) is a very reputable agency.
As you can guess, I grew up there and it's just beautiful. Not as fast as Sydney or Melbourne, but still very cosmopolitan because it is a capital city, and with great beaches.
A lot of people come and go from Newcastle and a lot have money due to surrounding mining industry, so again the market is always moving. It is at least eight hours drive from Brisbane, but you can fly direct.
I've spent a lot of time in Newy too, it has more of a small town feel than Perth but you have the advantage that it is close to Sydney so if you want to do mega shopping you can drive there and back for the day. It also has great beaches and beautiful surrounding countryside.
