There are many side effects which are POSSIBLE with valium. I have copied some of the more rare side effects associated with valium and want you to notice that it was under a category specifically labeled "notify your doctor":
************************************************
Always Notify Doctor:
Less Common: Anxiety; confusion (may be more common in the elderly); fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat; lack of memory of events taking place after benzodiazepine is taken (may be more common with triazolam); mental depression
Rare: Abnormal thinking, including disorientation, delusions (holding false beliefs that cannot be changed by facts), or loss of sense of reality; agitation; behavior changes, including aggressive behavior, bizarre behavior, decreased inhibition, or outbursts of anger; convulsions (seizures); hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there); hypotension (low blood pressure); muscle weakness; skin rash or itching; sore throat, fever, and chills; trouble in sleeping; ulcers or sores in mouth or throat (continuing); uncontrolled movements of body, including the eyes; unusual bleeding or bruising; unusual excitement, nervousness, or irritability; unusual tiredness or weakness (severe); yellow eyes or skin
**************************************************************
THere are many options available as prescriptions for muscle spasm relief and it is definitely worth your time to call your doctor and tell him/her what you have been experiencing. Let them know it is troubling you and that you very much want to try something else to see if it helps.
Feel better

Probably why you are on the Valium, right?
I wouldn't suggest reading side effects if I were you. You sound like you would suddenly imagine that you had all the side effects when you don't. Let it go. 5mgs is not a big dose. If you already took some and had no bad reactions, then you are fine.

They can make you paranoid even though they can also be used to stop paranoia. As with any drug they will have different effects on different people, I would speak to your GP about this as your symptoms may get worse and also because valium is highly addictive even at a low dose, if you were to come off it suddenly, it would lead to very serious withdrawl symptoms so dont just stop taking it.
