You can't be persuasive on this subject. We should raise it not lower it. Imagine how many teenagers would be alive now if we did.

There shouldn't be a drinking age if this is truly a free country.

People of any age who earn money are taxed equally.

You can be drafted (if there was a draft) and can vote at 18, but can't legally drink. Doesn't seem fair?

Many countries who have no drinking age produce a lot more responsible drinkers than we (the USA) do. More alcoholics came out of the prohibition era than before or after; banning drinking until 21 produces a group of irresponsible drinkers.

Should a 17 year old be classified as a criminal for drinking a few beers on the weekend?

I believe in US is 21, right? Well, I live in a country where drinking age is 18 years old and the drunk-caused accidents rate is really high so i would say the older the better, an 18 year old boy or girl is not mature enough to be careful about this things, when we are young we think that we can handle everything and that nothing can happen to us. Also, i think the longer a person is exposed to alcohol the easier it is for them to get hung up to it and the more likely it is to get an alcohol-related deasese, but that is just my humble opinion, I am no expert. I hope this helps.

I have no problem with a kid of 12+ going to dinner with mom & dad and being able to have a glass or half glass of wine. At somewhere around 14-16, a glass of beer. If the child is taught how to respect and enjoy alcohol, under supervision, I'm guessing some might be less likely to abuse it. The curiosity factor gets removed. Secretly drinking with friends may lose its appeal. It's all about good parenting and responsibility.

However, this is not advocating lowering the overall age, but instead allows minors to have ONE drink, under parental supervision. This DOES NOT mean that they can go to a liquor store and buy a gallon of Vodka or that they can go to Friday's with their friends and get hammered on Long Island Iced Teas.

However, what most of the 19 year olds who are posting on here have missed is that when the drinking age was raised to 21, drunk driving fatalities among youths has decreased 63% since the drinking age was decreased.

Yes because we could solve a lot of abuse problems. It's ridiculous that the US allows its kids to go off into the world and let them drink until the pass out on their twenty-first birthday (usually earlier for most). If we lower the age, we may still have a problem, but it won't be the trendy thing since you'll be able to drink at a younger age.

They should lower the drinking age. If you can vote and be sent off to war, then why not drink. Besides I have been drinking heavily since I was 13. 10 years later and I am rich. Didn't bother me.

There should not be a drinking age in the first place. The state has no business acting as a parent in regard to alcohol consumption. In the case of minors, it should be up to the parents.

Yes-because if you are 18 in the US, you can vote, purchase tobacco and can be sent off to war. Absolutley!

No-because of the lack of social responsability the US has regarding alcohol. Many Europran countries don't have the severe problem the US does, because the kids drink beer with some meals and have much more respect for it.

I think that there should be a trade off, In the older times when drinking was not considered such a taboo for the young, it was your family that taught you the method to the madness of the spirit. But with the deminishing time for family how do you teach the responsibility of the demon.

Other countries have significantly lower drinking ages and lower levels of drunken driving. It is important to let people realize what alcohol does before they are used to driving. I say lower the drinking age and raise the driving age!
