You might have 'trench mouth' which is a very colorful name for gingivitis. I had this as a complication when I got a VERY bad case of strep throat. Try gargling saltwater, listerine, and/or hydrogen peroxide (all will kill the bacteria in your mouth. Personally I never got up the guts to try the peroxide). If it is trench mouth it will go away after a while.
But then again the trench mouth I had was very painful.
Anyway, I hope this helps.

It has something to do with the chemicals your stomache produces..its like a gas or something which settles and gets on your tongue. Are you sure those bumps aren't just your taste buds? Big bumps on the back of your tongue are usually tastebuds that help you taste bitter flavors.

Have you added or changed medications recently? Maybe taken an antibiotic? If so, you may have thrush and it is a side effect or reaction to the medication/antibiotic.
I got this same thing and the only cure for it was taking a liquid that I had to swish for 2 minutes and then swallow. I had to use this "swish and swallow" for 7 to10 days, it tastes nasty but the stuff works very well.
You need to see your general physician and he will prescribe the proper cure. Also, you will need to replace your tooth brush after the thrush is completely gone.

It's just a blister - this happens when you burn your tongue on something. It's going to hurt and if you can stomach the pain, pinch it until it pops. This isn't always the best option, but it will insure that it won't hurt in 24 hours.

When this happended to me, the doc said my taste buds were infected. Gave me some meds and in a day or two it was gone. It did look weird though seeing those big bumps in there.

oooh you lied.... Lol thats an old wise tail. their not really infection but its gonna be their till it goes away. It's really just a swollen taste bud maybe you bit it or something. It'll go away in like a couple of days. The longest time one of mine have lasted has been like a week. Not to freak you out. But it's go away soon.

the coloration is something we all have in one or other degree, our saliva pH and other factors influence this.... so no matter how much or how hard you clean it it will always get the color it had before. those bumps on the back of your tongue are completely normal, look for info on the net, we all got them there.
