Germany officially surrendered on May 7, 1945 and May 8 was proclaimed VE day.
:Japan officially surrendered on August 14, 1945 and August 15 was declared VJ day-on September 2,1945 the japanese signed surrender documents on USS Missouri.

The Germans got their butts kicked by the US, British, and Russians, the latter of which captured Berlin (their capitol). Nazi Germany was simply destroied.
The Japanese surrendered after we nuked 2 of their cities. They were never destroied, but their government was restructured and their military dismantled.
As for the Italians, I don't remember what happened to them. Best guess- they saw what happened to the Japanese and Germans, peed themselves, and gave up. But, i could be wrong on that.
