run around screaming and get really hyper when they turn the vaccum cleaner on? My son is 3 and it never fails. Everytime I start to vaccum he gets so pumped up. I was just wondering if anyone else's kid does this silly thing.

Sounds like he's fascinated by the vaccum cleaner. Try letting him use it, say like down the hall way where he can't run into or knock anything over. Then he'll see it's not so much fun!

My son screams when I get close to him with the vaccum, exspecially when he is in his bedroom and I come in there. I think it is a fear that I am going to vaccum up his toys. Also he gets mad when he is watching TV because he can't hear the TV. I think the fear is more just becasue of the loud noise of the vaccum. It is a normal reaction for a child to fear a loud noise, just like when you raise your voice to yell at them.

Actually, my 18 month old screams because she doesn't like it. I would guess that there's nothing abnormal about what your son is doing. Just being a little tyke and acting silly.

It's all a matter of trying to be louder than the vaccuum! He's inside and with the vaccuum on that gives him the oppourtunity to get loud and crazy without upsetting someone about the noise!

Our daycare provider has OCD and is constantly cleaning. Whenever we turn on the vacuum he insists on "operating" it. Typically we tell him to let us finish and then we let him vacuum a little bit. When WE'RE done, we tell him the vacuum is going "night, night" and put it away. We even bought him a little toy vacuum for Christmas. He loves it.

Well mine sort of does that. When I turn it on she playfully screams and jumps on the couch or the bed and when it gets closer she acts like it is going to get her then starts laughing. But she doesn't like the blow dryer.

My 19-month old is petrified of the vacuum cleaner and cries every time we turn it on. I wonder if he'll ever outgrow it?!

mine is 4 1/2 and she always runs into her room if i get it out.try buying him a toy dirt devil..she also freaks out by the toilets that flush when you stand up,so if we're in a stall with those i have to hold my hand over the sensor so it won't flush....

Seen it before, and if vague memory serves, may have done it myself. It's a phase, and will pass. Doesn't hurt to sit down and talk about it, and reassure the kid that everything's okay.
