Hi all,

Just thought I might get some help on here. As stated in the question, my 93 altima repeatedly stalls (at random I might add about 2-3 times a day). On the freeway, city streets. Sometimes it may be after 1 minute after a cold start, other times its after 50 mins of 70mph driving on the freeway. RPM drops to zero and takes about a good 15-20 tries to get it started again. Timing chain is fine. Fuel pressure is fine, the distributer assembly was replaced with a new one (in the hopes that it would fix the problem but not much luck), fuel pump was replaced about a year ago, spark plugs are about a year old. I've taken it to 2 mechanics and both are stumped. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

IYou were smart to replace distributor, as that's a common issue with early Altimas. I wonder if it could be a defective replacement or a defective ignition coil. Another thing I'd do is sand and create an additional ground to the body. On older cars they can corrode.

There's also a sensor that controls idle speed that could be on the blink. Hang in there. It's a pretty good car overall.

ok so my 99 Nissan Altima has had the engine light on for a month straight, this has happened in the past and whenever I took it to Auto Zone I was told it had something to do with the gas. We changed the cap and it would turn off after about 50 miles. This past Sunday the car just turned off right as I got out of the freeway and will not start. It turns over and makes the sound as if it's going to start but won't. Can this be the same thing, the Fuel pump that finally gave out?

Could be debris in the fuel system. As you pick up matter in the gas tank, the filter plugs up, shutting off flow. The pressure then falls off gradually and the line becomes free. Have your mechanic check and clean the system and install new filters. GOOD LUCK!

try the fuel filter. if the other stuff works and the engine is being starved for fuel during high speed use....

Some of these have 2 filters. One at the pump and one in-line

Fuel injectors? or it could be an electrical problem of some sort.
