I gave birth to my first on Feb. 6th. I am already back to my pre-pregnancy weight and my stomach has gone down. I feel GREAT! and want to start working out again. How soon can you begin ab workouts? Do you really need to wait the whole 6 weeks? Also, I am not breast feeding if that makes a difference.

You need to wait until your doctor clears you for exercise. Your body just went through a life changing experience and needs time to heal and recover. You do not want to risk injuring yourself at all. Relax and enjoy the new baby!

Yes, you need to wait the full six weeks. When you're not breast feeding, that actually makes the wait time LONGER for you to fully recover. Breast feeding causes contractions in the uterus to help it shrink back down to size, and since you're not, it will take longer for your uterus to shrink back down (don't feel bad, I couldn't breast feed either, my son takes soy formula). Personally, I'd recommend 8 weeks. You may feel fine, but you do not have enough nutrients in your body to have recovered yet from pregnancy and childbirth, and you risk fainting while working out and burning too many calories that you need right now for energy. Do mild exercises (walking, light jogging, yoga) until you reach the 6-8 week mark, then do harder exercise. Hope everything goes well.

You need to wait ATLEAST 4 weeks, although 6 weeks is better for your body.

You dont want to split your ab muscles and end up with a hernia, or damage your body or uterus.

besides, working out that early causes you to bleed more, which can cause you to hemorrhage, or to have other complications.

I had mine on the 20th of Jan. All the doctors i ask have told me to wait the 6 weeks.

Congratulations!!!!

As for working out, you might want to wait at least 2 full weeks.
Even though you feel great, your muscles need that time to recover from what they've been through.
Start out slow too. You don't want to rush into any thing.

good luck~

You should really wait 6 weeks to avoid more bleeding. What's the hurry if you are already doing so great?

YES YES YES!!!!! WAIT YOUR FULL 6 WEEKS!! It is really up to your doctor to give you the okay to work out. If you dont wait you could really mess all your insides up. Definately wait. Its not worth it if something bad were to happen. Your body is healing. Be patient.
