yes the vedas forbid a hindu to travel beyond the country.....

they are called desabhrastas, even corrput kings or people in ancient times were banished from the country

they put this rule so that we dont invade other countries...and so India didnt invade any country and this is the reason why inspite of all other ancient civilizations are almost extinct, Indian civilization is still alive....

In the history of manking all violent civilizations perished...

If you are not going there to Invade or loot I guess its fine...lol

I am American. I worked for a Hindu family in my country. The family was very religious and behaved nicely to people of other faiths (like me). I doubt that it is truly against the Hindu religion to leave India.

Yes. There are many very religious Hindus in other countries, including the U.S. and the scriptures dont prohibit it.

Ummm...hmmm...I was born here, raised here, my parents are both from India, and they're both Hindu. Considering the number of NRIs worldwide, I'd say it's fine, just so long as you don't abandon your culture and faith.

I believe for a long time until recently (a generation or two back), similar to those who ate beef, those who travelled to foreign countries were regarded as mlechchas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mlechcha), and, kind of, impure.
