I started dating my room-mate about a month ago. We live in a two bedroom apartment, and he usually sleeps in my room w/ me. Last night I got home kind of late and thought I wanted him to sleep with me. However, I changed my mind after a few minutes and asked him to sleep in his room because he was too distracting and I needed to wake up early this morning. At this point he said I was being a jerk and refused to leave unless we broke up. Was I being a jerk?

he was being a jerk. you've only been going out for a month. just because he usually sleeps in your room doesn't mean that he has to every night. either of you should be able to make the decision to sleep in separate rooms on any given night. he might have been a little confused or hurt that you changed your mind on this particular night, but it sounds like you had good reason to. it sounds like he was trying to manipulate you into letting him stay by refusing to leave unless you broke up, which would be a red flag to me that he's a crappy boyfriend / kind of a jerk in general. but maybe he was just really tired and apologized profusely in the morning.

Sounds like you're both being jerks. If your dating and you changed your mind you should have gotten up and went to his room to sleep alone. What is too distracting??? He refused to leave unless you broke up. What the heck is that all about???

if you explained about being distracting ,needing sleep and having to get up early, no, he is being the jerk. he should have been more understanding and to your feelings. we all have our times when we need more sleep.

lets see, you are "dating" your "room-mate"...sounds like you are living together in a relationship.
he sleeps in your room with you and you asked him to sleep in his room
Sounds to me like you need to decide if you are having a live-in relationship or not...most people don't live with someone they are just dating.
I can see why he thought you were a jerk...but who knows the whole story

be cool...

No I don't think so. Let him cool off and it'll be fine. Just remember next time to tell him ahead of time that you need to wake up early so he won't go to bed expecting one thing and ending up not getting it.

If he ususally sleeps with you and it has become the standard, then yes, you were being a jerk.

You could have gone to his room and slept and avoided all the trouble.

Um, no. He should have respected that you had to get up early and it is YOUR room, after all. HE was being the jerk.

no. he should respect your wishes. especially since you had to wake up early. He's a jerk for not being understanding.

Yes...it doesnt sound like you want a relationship and you should never get involved with a roomate for this reason alone!

No, you are not a jerk. You just needed space.
