My 2-year old Aby has red patches & missing fur where she keeps furiously licking herself. She's not sick & never goes outside. We have no other pets. Could it be that she gets hot & itchy from sleeping on the radiator on on top of the cablebox & licks herself raw cuz she gets too hot? Could she have burns? We can't figure it out. Any thoughts out there?

Some cats have serious allergies. When cats are itchy, they will lick their hair right off. I have a cat who is severely allergic to fleas. All it takes is one single flea bite, and he rips all of his hair out. Take your kitty to the vet to make sure it isn't something terribly serious. If it's allergies, you'll be able to get the problem solved with some pretty cheap medicines.

Well she could be warm and licking herself there. But it could also mean she is really really stressed out because of something going on that would be very stressful. I have a cat who licked herself furiously on her stomache which led to her having not much fur on her stomache. She could also have allergies or something of the like.

Your cat could have ringworm - even if it doesn't go outside, it is possible. Get your cat checked by a vet. I thought my cat had ring worm for months until I figured out he was allergic to the red dye in his treats and literally licked the fur off his arms. Poor cat.

My cat annabelle used to do this and she licked all her fur off. We eventually had to put her down. She had something wrong in her brain though. Try spraying tea tree oil on the spots she keeps licking. Its harmless and it tastes bad. if she doesnt stop take her to see a vet.

Yes,I think the shedding is from getting to hot,and she is licking her self their to clean herself, but I dont know why she would have burns or hert skin from a cable box,if this goes on and gets worsh, you should go to a vet immediately
