I have a beautiful Chocolate brown couch that I am making a focal point of the room witha gold colored accent wall and additional decor, and a fire place with a simple mantle that is my focal point accross from the the couch at an angle. The tv cable outlet is next to the firelpace forcing the tv to be "balanced" in the same area potentially taking the focus off of the fireplace. Can anyone give me an idea of how to keep the fireplace the focal point and keeping the tv seccondary without covering or hiding the tv?

It's an apartment and therefore I can't change the cable outlet location, or burry anything under the carpet. Also, The linear focal point thing is a great idea, but the couch and fireplace are on exactly opposite walls and there is a walkway to the dining area and kitchen in between the 2 walls. All the ideas so far are good, it's just a difficult space!

I had the same problem- I had the company come out and move the jack. I STILL was no happy. I have Old World decor and a fire place that soars 22 plus ft. I ended up having to buy a very tall and large armoire.

I do some interior decorating and unless your style is very modern or contemporary, a TV is not going to look good no matter where you move it unfortunately. IF you have modern decor, you might consider buying a large and sleek big screen when it's time to replace yours. Unless one has a decorating eye, visitors etc. not only will not notice your formation isn't balanced- they will PHYSICALLY gravitate to your TV and drool, esp. the male visitors. LOL

I don't know your age so I don't know if you recall the TVs from many years ago- they were made into furniture cabinets as opposed to armoires. This style is making a come back. I actually saw a few in Best Buy. Good luck.

I use the fireplace as the focal point. My TV is about 8 feet to the left at a 45 degree angle to the focal point.

the only way to keep the tv from overshadowing the fireplace focal point is to hide it in an armoire or similar cabinet and place an equal sized cabinet on the opposite side of the fireplace from the TV. if you leave the tv out in the open, it will just draw attention away from both of your focal points.

I would grab yourself a cheap decorative screen and hide the TV by day. Place a potted plant in front of the screen to give it added effect.

Try not to let the screen be too decorative as it may take away from the fireplace.

I went to home depot and bought wooden bifold doors about $48

I brought them home painted them black and did a freehand painting of trellising roses. Then spray varnished the hole piece. This accessory has been brought from apartment to apartment to my new home for over 20 years. I painted the other side with a faux finish to look like rusted metal. When the black doesn't work, I just flip it and use the other side!

Sit the TV inside the fireplace opening. Just kidding. The person who said placing the TV in an armoire had a great idea.

Get a longer coax cable, bury it under the carpet (or hide the cable in some other way.) and put the tv where you want it.

My husband is a builder, and a uncomplicated answer is to place the television over the hearth. this does not unavoidably require a plasma. He generally builds an trouble-free cupboard over the hearth for a customary television, generally with area for the DVD participant, too.
