It should be, but to most people it isn't. To me its impossible to say it if I don't mean it and hard to say if I do mean it, if I'm not sure the person loves me back. Girls tend to have a harder time saying it if they don't mean it then guys do, guys can say what ever is needed to get in a girls pants. Some guys may even mean it at the time but once they get what they were wanting the realize they didn't really mean it. If you are a guy don't be like that, save it for when you mean it.

Some people can and some people cant. It depends how socially adjusted they are and how ethical they are. That is one characteristic I would look for in a gf or bf.

You should never say it if you don't mean it. It gives false hope to the person you are saying it to. If they feel hurt when you don't say it, simply tell them that you don't believe in saying things you don't mean, and that "I love you" is such a special and important thing to say to someone that you don't want to say it lightly. Tell them that just because you don't say it doesn't mean you don't care about them, and the fact that you enjoy being with them, means there is the possibility that you could feel ready to say those words someday, when you are truly ready to say them.

For an honest person, yes. Say what you mean AND mean what you say. if you don't mean it, then don't say it. You want to be trusted, right? If that doesn't matter, do what most guys do, tell her what she wants to hear, use and abuse her. Get a grip of reality here, would you want someone to tell you that if it wasn't true? What's the point?

It is for me! I don't think saying "I love you" is something you should do if you don't mean it! I have had to boyfriends tell me in the past that they loved me, but I wasn't able to say it back because I didn't feel the same way.
