1. Open the Start Menu
2. Right-click the My Computer icon and click on Properties.
3. The version will be listed there in that page's System Area.

2. Press F8 repetedly until the Boot Mode menu appears.
3. Start Windows XP in the troubleshooting mode by selecting "Safe Mode".
3. When the Widows Logon screen appears, a new user account appears at the top called "Administrator".
4. Logon with that account which rarely needs a password.

◙ Didn't that work for you? Well there is another way you can try. You can go to the web site below and download a program that will grab your encrypted password file. Get the information from that program and email the info to the web site and in a day or two you'll get your password back.

◙ TIP: You can get you password back in a few minutes if you give them $20.

◙ The source of this information was "PCs, The Missing Manual". If you have Windows XP you really need to buy this wonderful book. It is worth every penny they are charging for it. Ipoders will find some helpful information here too.

◙ Your computer comes with built-in help files. To get password information click on the START BUTTON > HELP & SUPPORT > SEARCH FOR "PASSWORDS". These help pages used to be a complete waste of time because they were so vague. But now they are very helpful. Back in the old days hard drive space was so small they really couldn't hold the huge cross-referenced help files we have today.

If you can get in with a different account that has administrative rights, you can create a new account. Then go to the "C:\documents and settings" folder and find the old ID. Copy all the files and folders out of the old ID into the new one.

If you can not get in with another account (you don't have one) try booting the compute in Safe Mode. Select the Adminstrator account and leave the password blank. If Windows came preinstalled on your PC, that is normally the password (nothing).
