what languages are they in? and if u dont know how can u understand them? and if u cant understand them how do you know what your saying? and if its cause gods spirit is in you controlling you, then hes taken away free will.

why not pray in english? if god can understand it why bother with "tongues". if he cant then why does anyone bother praying in english?

am i the only one seeing through this act of being "on fire" for god that you fall to the floor speaking in languages u dont even understand?

I do.

what languages are they in?
-It's a God-given one. It's not a language that people can just learn.

and if u don't know how can u understand them?
-Some have the gift of interpreting tongues

and if u cant understand them how do you know what your saying?
-It doesn't matter. Speaking in tongues is basically having the holy spirit pray FOR you, even though you may not know what to pray for, God does. The holy spirit just overcomes you and starts praying through you. It's kind of like prophecying, but it's for you, personally, not for others to hear.

why not pray in English?
I do that also. The reason I speak in tongues I stated directly above ^

am i the only one seeing through this act of being "on fire" for god that you fall to the floor speaking in languages u dont even understand?

Oh ... chipster...

That's the most amazing experience I have ever had. I've had visions while slain in the spirit. The peace of God is indescribable.

When I speak in tongues I am not controlled by the Spirit - but in communion with Him. I would say that I am in a place that is so personal - with God - that it doesn't matter what I am saying, If He deems it necessary, it is up to Him to appoint someone present, to interpret what has been said.
Some people speak in a language that is discernible, some speak in a language that is of heaven.
I'm sure there are frauds out there, but why? there isn't any reason for fraudulent behaviour unless you are in cahoots with the person appointed to interpret.
It is also not exceptionally common. I don't do it often - or for "show". It just "is".
Sorry but you aren't 'seeing' through anything. You need to study up on it more before you make accusations. Your question sounds like a classic case of fear of the unknown and is manifesting itself in prejudice.

Being on fire for god is never an act. It pretty much sounds like you calling God a liar. He made a separate language for each and every one of us so that no one else can understand what we are saying to him, not even us. Here's the thing, we don't ask "why" because we don't question our God. Nor should we, we are to have faith and trust completely in him.

I guess I just don't get why non believers "assume" it's an act. Why don't you go to church for a while? Hopefully you'll get saved, then you can experience the love that we do. Not to mention, I don't ask non believers why they don't believe, I mean if you all have questions, I'm delighted to answer the best I can, but I'm not going to shove my beliefs on you. I'm sorry, I don't mean to take offense to this but it doesn't seem like you are seriously inquiring, pretty much sounds like you are patronizing us. Fortunately for me, what you think of us is of no matter to me, because in the end, you won't be the one casting judgement. I know where I'm spending eternity. I can only pray that you will find your way. God doesn't take away our free will, since the holy spirit is part of us, it's still our choice, i.e. free will

John 13:35: “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.”

1 Cor. 13:1, 8: “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but do not have love, I have become a sounding piece of brass or a clashing cymbal. Love never fails. But whether there are gifts of prophesying, they will be done away with; whether there are tongues, they will cease.”

Jesus said that holy spirit would come upon his followers and that they would be witnesses of him to the most distant part of the earth. (Acts 1:8) He instructed them to “make disciples of people of all the nations.” (Matt. 28:19) He also foretold that ‘this good news of the kingdom would be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all nations.’ (Matt. 24:14) Who today, both as a group and individually, are doing this work? In harmony with what Jesus said, should we not look for this as an evidence that a group has holy spirit?

no, i've never done that... but from what i understand, it's in hebrew or latin. if you don't know hebrew, you can't understand.... now in catholicism, tongues is spoken in latin... in the jewish/christian religions it's spoken mainly in hebrew... this is because of the origin of these religions. speaking in tongues is an uncontrolable reaction, and is supposed to be the body possesed by the holy spirit conveying a message to the church. i have never seen anybody speak in tongues, so it is difficult for me to wrap my mind around it as well.

your tongue can lick envelopes. they let you have more inhansed taste instead of only recieving wether they are sweet, salty, etc by your nose. they help you whistle in a way and it is the only way to bring out a large mass of saliva from your mouth without spitting not to forget, they let your swallow and prevent you from choking

Speaking in tongues simply means speaking in a foreign language. So if you can speak English and Spanish you can speak in tongues. It's nothing more than speaking a language unknown to another. Example: If I only know and speak the English langauage and then you approach me speaking in another tongue (language) well my friend, you have just spoken to me in tongues. When people start spitting out mumble jumble and call it "speaking in tongues" believe me, it is nothing more than jibberish.
