There are four main types of Messenger from Microsoft that come to mind:

1) MSN Messenger
- Old version of the popular instant messenger used for chatting with other over the Internet.
- Seems to be replaced with the newer Windows Live Messenger (below)

2) Windows Live Messenger
- http://get.live.com/messenger/overview
- Updated version of MSN Messenger
- Used to chat with others over the Internet
- Need a Passport/Hotmail/Windows Live ID account to log in

3) MSN Web Messenger
- http://webmessenger.msn.com/
- Instant messenger similar to MSN Messenger
- Does not require any application to be installed, uses your browser (good for accessing Messenger on public terminals)
- Can log in using your existing Passport/Hotmail/Windows Live ID account

4) Windows Messenger
- Comes with Windows XP / 2000
- I believe it is for instant messaging over a local network, e.g. meant to be used within companies.

To delete your Passport or Hotmail or Windows Live ID account, you can try to follow the advice at the following link:

Usually, for Hotmail accounts at least, they expire after a month's time of inactivity.

MSN Messenger and Microsoft Messenger are the same thing. To delete a contact, right click on the contact, and click on delete contact.

If you are refering to:

Msn Messenger & Microsoft Live messenger

The two are the same. Msn Microsoft Live is simply the latest version of Msn when Msn and Microsoft's decided to work together.
You can download the latest version of Msn (aka Microsoft Windows Live messeneger) at:
