What program do you recommend for someone who is partily computer illiterate? I know there is Paint Shop but I hear that is not real easy to work with. I want a program where I can do the basic editing tools as well as some animation or glitters, that is easy to use.

it is excellent for basic editing, and can help organize pictures and even email them to friends and print them online or at home. best part it is Free and you can keep it forever.

Jasc Paint Shop is one of the best for beginners. It has all the features you listed (including animation, which most do not). There is a little bit of learning you have to do with the program. But it is for "advanced beginner" to "intermediate" computer users. For its ease, it is one of the most powerful programs on the market.

You might check out Google's free digital image program & image file manager: Picasa2. It automatically loads and catalogs your images and lets you regroup them into topics or folders of your choice. It lets you make simple-to-do image manipulations. It will also let you create a slide show and save images or auto-run slide shows to CD's to send to friends.
