Absolutely not. Accepting that I was an atheist was one of the most fullfilling things that I've ever done. I was no longer trapped under the burden of self-hatred that I feel that many religions encourage -- that you are a such an awful person that you NEED someone else to make you good and clean. And death is not something that I find lonely or frightening. Everything has a beginning and an end, and its nothing to be afraid of. I feel liberated, like I'm finally free to make my own decisions on what I think about science, ethics, my relationships with other people. I'm also not constantly confused about why negative things happen and trying to figure out what god won't help me. I know who I can truly rely on and I don't suffer the same disappointments.

How can I feel alone, empty, or frightened when I have the love of my family, the love of my fiance, and i'm going to school to get a good education to have a good life? If you make the best out of the life you have, no one should be afraid of not believing in god or afterlife.

I get asked this question quite frequently by believers. To be honest, it's quite the opposite. I don't have to spend my time wondering whether I'm pleasing a non-existent entity. I never wonder if my prayers are going to be answered, and if things aren't going well in any area of my life, I make sure that I sort it out, as opposed to believing that it is all part of a greater plan for me.

Lonely?
Once in a while since my family is like 99% percent christian and don't really care to understand my viewpoint.
Empty?
No. I just accept reality and that fulfills me well enough. Empty people needs to believe in imaginary things to make their lives seem important.
Frightening?
Not at all. If anything, it's freeing. Rather than depending on religion for answers, I determine my own way for best living my life. I don't claim it to be perfect or even complete, but it works for me.

I have to say no. Because i don't have to live in fear everyday knowing whether or not every decision I make I will go to hell or not. I have more important things to worry about. I do have a family, obviously I am not lonely. And I am not empty either, I am filled with lots of love, given and received.
So please, don't worry about my life. :)

okie dokie now, like religion is frightning, hell, satan, demons, evil spirits, ect....religion is pretty empty because no matter how long a holy book or text of any kind is, no matter much knowledge someone may seem to have to preach to you, you still have unanswered questions. lonely, how many times has someone cried out to a god of any kind, lit candles or had elaborate rituals, prayed and prayed, but never felt a presence, never got their answer, never felt the comfort they were serching for. even jesus said he felt abandoned. religion is freakin annoying, like seriously, just be happy with or without god:)

You are assuming that people that fall into those categories need a belief in God to lead a happy and productive life.
Everyone has different needs, so don't worry about others...just look after yourself.

Really it's lonelier believing in an omnipotent God who dishes out earthquakes and cholera and annihilates or eternally tortures people who have the wrong theological opinions or do the wrong things with their genitalia.

No, why would it be? I'd think it must be more lonely knowing that a supreme being is out there but not caring what happens to your life.
