The University of Minnesota did a study on this. http://atheism.about.com/od/atheistbigotryprejudice/a/AtheitsHated.htm This article is biased toward atheism, but it contains some of the stats--according to it, atheists are the most distrusted minority in the U.S.

Probably true. I guess they would rather have them believe and break the rules anyhow than not believe.
I actually think it is because they see science as more of a threat. I mean what happens when they start to create life out of chemicals in a lab. It will lose that special quality that they like to attribute to god. Or what happens when our computers get complex enough to be conscious--so much for the soul.

All people should be respected, just because someone wrote something in a book does not mean it is true. Atheists are some of the nicest, warm and friendly people you would ever want to meet. showing a few small minded people that their silly notions don't bother us is the thing to do.

Well surprised Gandolf. I did not really think they held any of us in any kind of esteem...atheists, gays or even heathen Christians (that is my new name for myself...saves them the trouble, lol).
Maybe you could find it on Amazon...I would like to see that.

Do you really think atheists care what some born-again fool thinks about them. They simply like thegays more because they are willing to toe the line in religious matters. I wonder what they think of atheist gays

It's a non issue. To Americans it's important perhaps but in the UK the views of conservative Christians are pretty meaningless.

You need more stats on the survey. Who was surveyed? What is the margin of error? If someone is gay, but does not act on the feelings they could be christians. You cant be christian and actively be gay.

As a gay atheist I don't particularly worry about what level of esteem christians hold me in.
