Enemas for infants are smaller than that of adults. So it shouldn't be that complicated. The enemas for toddlers can go into the rectum so far. Someone would have to hold your child and open and insert to anus and squeeze. be careful, because the child may have an immediate bowel movement. I'll leave you some tips. Usually instructions are on the boxes.
Have you tried prune juice or prune puree?
Have your child drink 1 or 2 glasses of water before the enema. Sometimes enemas can cause dehydration.
Have your child lie on his stomach with his knees pulled under him.
Lubricate the enema tube or nozzle and gently put it 1 and 1/2 inches to 2 inches into the rectum.
If you are giving a disposable enema, gradually squeeze the contents of the bag into the rectum. If you are giving a homemade enema, put the solution into the enema bag. The fluid will flow down gradually by gravity. Keep the enema bag no more than 2 feet above the level of your child's bottom.
When the bag is empty, remove the tube.
Your child should wait to go to the bathroom until he feels a strong need to have a bowel movement (in about 2 to 10 minutes).
If the enema equipment is disposable, throw it away. If it is reusable, clean the tube as best you can with an antibacterial soap and water. Then sterilize it by putting it in boiling water for 10 minutes. The enema bag just needs to be rinsed with water.

Both of my girls have the same problem along with me. I have never tried an enema, however you should control what she eats and drinks. Too much sugar and not enough fruit can really have bad outcomes. This is really hard for my children because they love sweets, me too! You really have to find something they like so they will eat it everyday. lots of fiber will help and occassionaly I have to give them metemucil. It will work within a day, just put it in some juice. They also make a sugar free kool aid called fiber infussions. In the juice section of the grocery.

There is a Fleet brand enema sold for children. Don't give her an adult sized enema. All you need to do is to lay your daughter on her side, insert the nozzle of the enema, the nozzle is lubricated, but you may want to add additional lubrication to ease entry. KY or any similar lube will be fine. Gently squeeze it until it is mostly empty. You do not have to empty the entire bottle. She will need to use the toilet within 5 minutes.

Just give her some water. Stay on top of it, give her about 8 extra oz.
Good luck giving a 3 yr old an enema! I know my 3 yr old wouldn't let me do that. Whenever he hasn't pooped in a long time I just make him drink more water and milk, I put coffeemate in my son's milk and that always works too.

Apple CIDER (not juice) works sooooo much better than prune juice. You can warm it up in a mug and she can stir with a cinnamom stick. She will think it is fun, but will get everything moving quickly. If she wants more, fine -- just be close to the bathroom.
PS -- an enema should be a last resort!

I second the Fleet Brand. Its called Fleet Baby Lax. Make your child lay down and puty a towel underneath.. sometimes it gets things going right away...
Insert the tip of the little bottle into her rectum and squeeze out the liquid. There will be a small amount left in the bottle, that's normal.
If your child is still in diapers, but a diaper on and wait, if not make sure she is near the toilet so she can run as soon as she has to go or let her even sit on it an wait if she wants to. Sometimes it works immediately, sometimes it takes up to one hour.
Good luck!

I used a product called Smooth Move Tea for my 3 year old son when he had this problem. My Dr. actually suggested it and I found it a health food store. Make sure you dilute it, I used 3 cups of water to one tea bag. I would keep it in a pitcher in the fridge and mix a small amount in with his regular juice. Had him back on track in no time! Good Luck!

Try the flavor "less" fibercon or other fiber additive that you can add to anything. You can get it at the grocery store or Wal-Mart. You just stir the powder into anything. It doesn't have a flavor. This may not help immediately, but it may be something you can start using daily after consulting with her dr. They also have yogurt now that is supposed to help with irregularity. With my daughter, I mixed dark Karo syrup with milk. That works like a charm
