Adelaide and Perth each have their good and bad points but both are good places to live. Drug taking and crime exist but they are not excessive and neither city is especially known for either. Perth's big disadvantage is that although it is in a beautiful part of Australia in the southwest, it is a very long way from anywhere else which becomes important if you want to travel around the country.

travelled round oz for a year and I would choose to live in Perth rather than Adelaide, there is crime and drugs everywhere you go in the world but found Perth to be pretty clean in that way. Felt very safe whilst we were there.

I grew up in Perth and it is a pretty good place to live, crime rates are not excessive, the climate is good, and the people are pretty friendly. I've only been to Adelaide bus station, which was pretty boring, so I can't advise you on that!
