Yes, no? Maybe?

I should have expanded but for some reason my browser closed out when I was writing in the details. I survived a bombing of a bus a few summers ago, and seen what it did to people. I just couldnt image a god allowing people to do that. Those people, dead, mutilated, how could a god abandon them? I needed an explaination. Everyone around me gave a biased opinon based on how I live so I came to yahoo for people to answer who werent involved in my life and could just answer me without knowing me.

Also, forgot to add, I don't just mean the christian god. There were people of all faiths I am sure on that bus and each one of their 'gods' was not there for them.

Yes. God does not always prevent bad things from happening. If there was no bad, how could there be good? It is all part of the balance of life. Everything happens for a reason. And I believe that most religions have the same God, they just have some different beliefs about Him and different names.

It all depends what you mean by "God."

If you mean an omniscient, omnipotent, omnibenevolent supernatural person, I think the evidence of human experience suggests that such a God does not exist. (EDIT: One major reason is the problem of evil, which caused your own doubts about such a God's existence.) The concept suffers from fatal incoherencies and is not worthy of credence.

If you mean something more subtle, such as universal ground of possibility and becoming, or a universal mind inherent in such a ground; if you mean a natural rather than a supernatural phenomenon or process; then I think it's valuable to call that reality God, since "God" is the word used in western tradition to designate ultimate reality and that which is worthy of the ultimate commitment of human beings.

You just have to make sure people know you don't mean the God of traditional theism.

The problem of evil in a world created by an omniscient, omnipotent supernatural being has vexed theologians for centuries. The best they can come up with is that "God works in mysterious ways." Yet is it really justified to consider God inscrutable when it comes to the suffering of innocents from malaria? tsunamis? hurricanes? ______ (add anything else)?

Most people who have survived the tragedy you endured turn to religion, out of psychological insecurities and fears. You have my respect for resisting that crutch and staying sane and rational in a capricious world. Good luck!

Yes He is real, and He loved you so much that He sent His son Jesus Christ to earth to die on a cross so that the gap that separates you from His presence could be bridged. If you want a face to face relationship with the living God all you need to do is repent of your sin, no sin is unforgivable, and receive the gift of redemption and eternal communion with Him. May the Lord bless you and Keep you!! PS please feel free to ask me any other questions you may have and I'll try to answer them as best as I can!!

I was once talking with someone and they told me that they would not believe in God because they couldn't see him. Then someone else asked him if he believed in love and without thinking, said yes. There are some things that we can't see but just know that they exist because we can feel them. If you have God in your life, you know he is real because you feel him in you everyday.

It's 2007 and I can't believe people are still asking this question. Yes He is, we wouldn't be waisting our time if He wasn't.
