You do not have to give your child the father's last name in order to receive child support. You do not even have to put the father's name on the birth certificate but you will have to give his name so a paternity test can be done and a court can order him to pay child support.

No you don't. You can open a child support case while you are still pregnant and once the baby is born you will have to do a follow up with the correct info. You will need to take a DNA to establish paternity. Once again you can also get this done while you are pregnant or when you give birth the hospital can get a sample from the placenta. Another the father does not need to sign the birth certificate you can still get him. Please do not force the baby on the father when he does not want to be in the baby life. I have been in your shoes.

It's easier if you put his name on the birth cerificate but no your child does not have to have his last name or be on the birth certificate. At least, not in the State of Califonia. Laws may be different in your state. You will have to establish paternity, whether by court order or if he voluntarilt accepts the fact that he is the father. You will then have to file with whatever state program is used to get child support arranged. The father will then also have the oppurtunity to file for visitation or custody if he so decides.
Good luck with everything.

NO! You do not have to give your child his last name! When the baby is born if he's not there to sign the birth certificate then when you go to court you might have to have a DNA test done if he tries to say he's not the father. After he's proven the father he will have to be on the birth certificate but your child still will not have to have his last name. Good luck with everything. Oh one more thing DON'T PUT HIS NAME ON THE CERTIFICATE! You don't have to name a father!

No. You have to get a court order to get child support. Why doesn't she have his last name? If he denies fatherhood, then you have to get a court order for paternity testing before you can get a child support order going. Have you done any of this? You need to see a lawyer, or legal aid service.

yes you do...now, I understand he is responsable for paying support but why would you force it...it doesnt mean he's going to pay just because the courts say so. What if you end up finding another man that accepts your baby and decides he wants to marry you? what if this guy becomes the only father they ever know...would you want him the baby to carry his last name or the biological fathers name? If I was you I wouldnt bother with it because if he wont have anything to do with the baby, he definately wont pay. There are so many men that dont pay support , it would be almost impossable for any agency to enforce it. Do you know how many men would/should be in jail for not paying...are jails would be over flowing, thats why its impossible to enforce. The only agency that would do anything about it would be the D.M.V. they would suspend his lisence...the Child support agency could garnish his checks. That wont last . he'll end up finding a job that will pay him under the table or he probably wont work at all(considering he's not even man enought to be the father). I know this because my sister went through it. she never got a dime and all them money she spent on legal proceedings,etc...was a waste. the courts made a ruling but it dindnt make any difference. the guy still didnt pay. she's now married and she wants the man she married to give his last name to the baby, she cant do it until the real father signs his rights away.(relinquish paternal rights) We dont even know where this guy is now. Now my neice has to live with the last name of a man she doesnt even know.
it's tottally up to you, but something to think about.

Nope. My son's birth cert has a blank for the father- and the sperm donor piecashit pays his child support....although not by choice.

HOWEVER.
If the name is not on the BC, there is a higher chance of having to get a DNA test in order to prove who the father is- but so long as it is him, he pays for it. If for some reason it isn't him, you have to pay for the test.

His name does NOT have to be in the child's birth certificate.
But his name does have to be provided to the child support
office! How else do you think you're gonna get the money.... He may dispute paternity and think that becuase his name is not in the B.C. he is excluded as the father but a DNA test will be done if he requests it.

No, I use to know a guy who didn't want anything to do with his kid, was paying child support, and would complain that another guys name was on the birth certificate. I think it's the blood test that really matters.

If you mean on the birth cert. then the answer is no. He has to sign in the birth cert. in order for the baby to have his name leagelly. The father does have the right to request a DNA test before he has to pay.
Good luck, I hoped this was helpful
