Sounds like what others here have been experiancing where they have received a number code like that and it usually means your return is under review. That happened to a lot of the January efilers who were suppose to get a refund on 1/26. It does seem strange that they would change it the day before the scheduled direct deposit date and put a reference code up. I would definitely call the IRS and they can at least give you an update on what's been happening. It's what others that have posted here with your same problem have done, but it does take awhile to get through, so hang in there!

i have this same 1221 number. This morning is the first i have actually investigated the return. Obviously a bad decision in just assuming the irs was simply slacking. i checked the website Wednesday and it stated i was due to receive my refund 2/16. Then sometime Thursday afternoon, it was changed to the same posting you have. I'm beyond annoyed. Guess I'm calling first thing in the morning. Isn't it wonderful how our governing bodies find the most effective ways to remind us of your powerlessness. Keep me updated if you can. I will do the same.

It's 6am, still no money in bank. Feeling defeated.

My refund was accepted by the IRS on 02/07/08 and the expected refund to be deposited by 02/19. On wed, 02/13, I checked the status and got the message that there was a delay in my refund. The message stated to call the IRS and give ref code 1201 and get ext 462. When I called I was told that there would be a delay in process for at least 3 additional weeks while they paid off my installment loan I had for previous federal taxes owed. They now said I should see my refund remaining by the end of Feb or first week of March.

if you have to call, you give them that number and they will pull your account right up.
