My son will be turning 3 next month. I want to get him a board game, but the problem with board games that are meant for his age, is that he already knows his ABC's (upper and lowercases) and how to count to 20. (Known since he was 20 months old.) He gets bored with things he already knows, and games that are meant for kids ages 6 and over are a bit too much for him. Do you know any games that are in-between? Anything that teaches counting over 20, and how to put letters together to form small words.

My daughter just turned 3 and is also advanced.Her favorite board game is "Chutes and Ladders" and she also likes the memory game.
I know it isn't a board game but it does cover what you're looking for.We bought our daughter a V-Smile for Xmas and it has some wonderful games that do all the things you're looking for.And they are age appropriate starting at 2 yrs of age and going up.My daughter loves the Thomas game as well as the alphabet game...Just a thought because I know how hard it is when you have an advanced toddler to find something that keeps teaching them without boring them...

My daughter was the same way - Here are a few suggestions of things she liked at that age (she is now 7)- all can most likely be found on Toys R Us website - Hope this helps!
Trouble - although it's listed as an older age- with your help and since he knows how to count to 20 he could absolutely play this game - best part is that the dice are inside a bubble so they don't get thrown or lost ( or at least they used to be)- you move the marker around based on your count. teaches counting & It's fun even as an adult too!
Cranium Games -Hullaballo- any & all of them we love - but There is one called Hullaballo that my daughter still LOVES that for younger kids- it's more of an action game than an actual board game - but the kids leran to follow directions, sort- etc.. she loved it at age 3 and beyond. I highly recommend it if your child is more active. They put these pads on the ground and listen to the game tell them which to do- find a yellow one - or one with an instrument, etc...
Tangeos, Jr. - This is a game about making patterns and shapes from rectangles, squares, etc..- it's sort of a game - my daughter has the older version now and I know people who use it in their classrooms , too - ages 4 and up is what it's suggested for
Hi Ho Cheerio- at laest I think that's what it was called- has a treon the box --- a counting game - where you spin and get cherries or apples to add into your bucket- great counting game - but only lower numbers and parts are a bit sammler so if your child likes to put things in their mouth then it might not be a good idea. This one might actually be too easy...
Finding Nemo Card Game - ABC Alphabet- this was a good langauge game. and compact, we could take it with us anywhere! Connect Four- again - not exactly a board game, but kind of - and sort of like a tic tac toe concept- but teaches strategy and counting, etc...
There are also Jr. versions of old classics like Clue, Jr. and Scrabble, Jr. that she enjoyed as well. They are the same games with a twist for younger kids.

Go to Toys R us and get the board games that say for ages 4 and up, like the Clifford Birthday Game.

The Memory Game is a great game for little kids. Candy land, Chutes and Ladders are also good. My Three year old also enjoys playing dominoes does very well.

perchance get a musical toy - a guitar, drum, xylophone...my son is two.5 years previous and loves those form of toys! additionally a Leapfrog toy - Leapfrog Alphabet Explorer or Leapfrog Magnetic refrigerator Set are large for his age! additionally he could like a buying cart with some play meals.... usual boy toys like an ambulance or hearth truck that lights furnishings up and makes noise is likewise something to think of roughly. My son has Fisher fee Little human beings Lil'Movers bus and loves it.
