Well, I used to agree with everyone in that all pets should be spayed/neutered. I fully intended to fix my kitten. Made an appointment, etc.
However, I could not get him "fixed" as intended because his blood clotting time (hemophilia?) is too slow - we've had him tested more than once - and thus the procedure is too dangerous for him. He's taking pills, and hopefully, his condition will improve and I can get him neutered one day.
So, I disagree with some of the people that say there is no reason. I dont think anyone wants to risk their pet's life.

The only reason I would not get my cat spayed or neutered was if it was of a certian breed and I wanted to breed it professionally otherwise there is no need to let them have kittens, there are kittens and pups being abandoned and put down all the time because they can't find homes or reliable owners. Even pet shops I question the need to sell puppies and kittens in these stores when there are advertisements in the paper everyday for kittens and puppies to go to good homes and everyone knows there are always plenty of dogs and cats at the pounds and animal shelters that could have a chance at a good life if someone takes them.

The ONLY reason I know of to not spay your pet is if you have some rare and desirable breed that can hardly be found anywhere else in the world, then you might want to keep your animals intact to pass on the genes. Otherwise, considering there are tons of pure bred animals at the animal shelter, animal control, SPCA (whatever) and other groups that save only certain breeds, there isn't a good reason.

If you have a good home ready for each and every new kitty then go for it. But if you dont have plans and are irresponsible, then neuter and spay, Kittens dont ask to be put into this world to be sick, starve, attacked, run over. If your not going to spay or neuter then be responsible, and dont give them out for free. People can be cruel. that my opinion.

Well, I had a little chihuahua who I decided not to spay. She was very little, and my vet would not perform the procedure for any kind of small dog or cat. He only did big dogs because the procedure for females (especially small pets) are much more dangerous and risky. So he wanted to refer me to another specialist vet in the city, so I decided not to do it because it seemed risky. My dog was otherwise very healthy and we also considered the possibility of having puppies.

none.
I work at a local pound, and I see kittens and cats, come in, tortured, starving, sick, hurt, lonely, scared, and desperate for love, only to be euthanized for the mere crime of not having a home.
With so many overpopulated pounds and shelters, there is no argument against neutering a pet.
Their demeanour won't change, and they will live much longer, and so many unwanted kittens won't be killed.
AND, with less wandering, less chances for kitty to contact or spread disease.

Cost might be an issue
they should walk through an animal shelter and check out all of the animals without homes that are going to be put down if they are not adopted and then think about getting that taken care of.
be cool...

If you want it to be a mommy or daddy cat, then don't.
