Is there anyway ur cat is "in heat" and that time of the season for them to mate. I had a cat howling like that and I was on the hoot owl shift at work and about drove me nuts trying to sleep during the day. Found out later the cat was just doing her mating call .

I don't know for sure, the answer to that but I CAN say, that like humans, each cat has a personality all his or her own. And whatever it's intended to be, that's what it is.

Some kitties howl as you say yours does, some have the abilities (like my sister's cat Max) to sound as if they're really talking to you PLUS - like one of her other cats, Missy, (she has 3 total) they cam meow as quietly as a child sometimes talks.

So you see, in these sort of ways, they're just like us.

My (neutered male) cat is now 5 and is a complete freak in that every single night since his infancy he howls like a horrible injured animal. I have no idea why he does this, but he just does.

Some cats just like to talk a lot.

Because he is a baby! He is only 7 months old and needs his mommy which is now you! He wants to be played with and wants food and water and attention, just like real kids. They know that sound will get your attention and get their needs met, again just like a human baby.

Do you have your cat fixed? Usually that noise is a sign of being in heat / mating...you should get your cat fixed unless you are willing to be responsible for lots of baby kittens. Also, if he is a male, eventually he will start "spraying" his territory, including your house & it's belongings and it is a wretched and impossible to remove smell!

fixed? often unfixed males "sing" for females.
otherwise, some cats are talkers, some are not. i found talking back helps, you words or his! they don't care. often it's a "cry" for attention! (needy, needy!) that's why my tomcat talks! it's like he's saying "mom, here i am, love me now"!
