A Yahoo story broke today stating that Peter Pan peanut butter has recalled some product after salmonella sickened 288 people in 39 states since August, was linked to tainted peanut butter produced by ConAgra "Peter Pan" at a plant in Sylvester, Ga.

I have an unopened jar of the recalled product in my cabinet that I purchased last week. On the lid the number starts in "21111".

They say you can send it to the manufacturer for a refund but the mailing charge will make it non-economical. Can't I just return it to the place of purchase for a refund? I have never returned a food product before.

No you need to send the lid in jus like it says. You can try returning it to the store but without a receipt how do they know you bought it there?

I returned two jars today to my local grocery store with no problems. As far as lawsuits, what? for vomiting and the runs? Get real. That's what's wrong these days. Everybody's lawsuit happy. Unless you had permanent damage, you had no more than flu-like symptoms. At the time, that's probably what you thought you had. What's next, suing the person you caught a cold from?

Of course you can. I bring back milk if it doesn't smell right etc and they always take it back even without a receipt, but it'd be better to exchange the product for another kind if you have no receipt. Good Luck!

I got sick and have an ongoing infection from this junk. Save the bottle just in case you get sick so you can join in the lawsuit.

This is serious junk...I might be dealing with this illness for the rest of my life.

I think so but different stores have different policies about returns and they might not take it back if the pb company might have told them not to.
