A story broke today stating that Peter Pan peanut butter has recalled some product after salmonella sickened 288 people in 39 states since August, was linked to tainted peanut butter produced by ConAgra "Peter Pan" at a plant in Sylvester, Ga.

I have an unopened jar of the recalled product in my cabinet that I purchased last week. On the lid the number starts in "21111".

They say you can send it to the manufacturer for a refund but the mailing charge will make it non-economical. Can't I just return it to the place of purchase for a refund? I have never returned a food product before.

Yes, you can even if it is opened, they should give you a full refund. I almost passed out after I read it this morning. I ate a Great Value peanut butter sandwich last night.

From what I read, you can just mail them the lid, they don't need the whole jar. That should save on some of the shipping cost. I'm not sure if stores will accept it.

Don't get a refund, save the can. If you get sick, you'll need it for the lawsuit.

I'm sick from the junk...I was initially very sick for a couple of days, but now I have an infection that may be chronic.
