He...I am a Christian and I have to tell you, I do know a lot of Christians who use some pretty forceful tactics to get people to convert. And yes, that is very, very wrong.
I think as intelligent people that at least a good majority of Christians are able to think outside the Bible.
But your question is a good one. When I was much younger I might have said yes, I will go. A year from now I might say yes I will go...but right now I am studying zen buddhism and recovering from a very bad depression after a divorce so I am not in a good place to make that kind of decision.
However, if I believe that is where God wanted me to go, I would go. Right now...Yahoo Answers is almost that dangerous.

Plenty of Christians have taken the bibles teaching, and expanded on that. There are many very good books on Christian teachings out there. Remember that most of the new testement is just the apostles writting down what God and being a Christian was for them in thier time. People have done the same today, they just are not a part of the bible.

You need to wake up.
i was born and raised catholic and became a born again christian for 4 years.
Spreading my beliefs? I'm now pagan.
What if i said im GAY..i still get persecuted way more by christians than anyone else. Just because the bible tells you its wrong doesnt mean everything else is wrong in the world just because one book says so.
Never force? how about "you need to get saved by believing in jesus or go to hell!"
How about I'm gay and cant get married? Whom do you think controls all this? Just because the christian right doesnt like it doesnt mean they have to control everything. How about if im gay and my life partner is dying in the hospital and they wont let me see him because im not considered a family member?
Please stop being so naiive its the year 2007.
Dont forget President bush said that GOD told him to go to war...nothing else?
WAKE UP!

maybe I would go once my children are grown. We are taught to spread Gods word to the whole world. What if there is someone there who is searching? I do not force my views on anyone, but I would hope that somehow I would be able to get to those who are looking instead of having someone else choose for them. But the world does not allow religious freedom every where. We are very lucky to live where we do.

Claiming that you are not extremists because you are less extreme than the Taliban isn't very convincing.
I believe in judging people by their actions and you do not get a free pass just because the Taliban are a bunch of kooks.

The PROBLEM is not the evangelizing, it's the message that you are evangelizing.
The people I see calling themselves Christians, who, in the truest sense of the word, are those who believe that Jesus the man was the Christ, who died and rose again to save the souls of mankind from seperation from God, the supreme creator.
Those christians, who I see and hear evangelizing the word of God are telling people in so many words that:
1 there is only god and his name is Jesus Christ.
2. If you do not accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior
3. You will be damned for all eternity in a place of utter torment which you call Hell.
ALL THREE ARE ERRORS.
Jesus preached of many ways to secure life after the body dies and the manner in which to find those ways is what is the core of his message "seek and you will find". Jesus Christ repeats over and over all throughout the bible "Seek and Ye Shall Find". "Let Him Who Hath Ears, Let Him Hear." He is telling us over and over and over again, "whosoever shall have Faith in Me, shall have everlasting life". Not faith in the MAN, Jesus, but Faith in his words, which he speaks over and over and over again. How many different ways does he have to explain it. He spoke the words. He lived the words. He died so humanity could SEE and vicariously experience the sorrow of suffering of an INNOCENT and he came back from death and walked around and told everyone, Here I AM , back from the dead, just like you will, if only you BELIEVE in my message. The Word of God is His Message AND WHAT IS THAT MESSAGE?
I believe Jesus the man was the living spirit in it's Fullest form possible in a man and through him, the Spirit revealed itself to mankind. I believe that what the Spirit communicated through him was Truth in it's the purest form it could be, given that speech and language are the lowest forms of man's communication skills. The only way to PRESERVE HIS MESSAGE for all was to have people write it down and in that, the message was further dirtied and it is up to us to filter the dirt to find the diamonds. Seperate the Wheat from the chaff, as Jesus also said. As individuals we must do this for own sake and for the sake of mankind as a whole. All the enlightened and INSPIRED texts have truths in them from the Spirit speaking through a Man. No other Man has been the example that Jesus Christ was and so I do count on his words the most, but that doesn't make me correct in all that I believe. To think that one book or one person can hold all the Truth of God is PREPOSTEROUS and blasphemous to the highest degreee.
anyway, stop spreading your beliefs and judgements and start sharing your Faith in the Message that those who Seek will Find. There is a difference between encouraging the faithless to Seek Faith and encouraging the faithless to Learn Faith by following your very narrow and selfish definition of the Path.
