I am taking Citalopram, too. I have discovered that if I take it late in the day (even as late as after lunch) I have trouble falling asleep. Take to your pharmacist or doctor to make sure.

My doctor told me to take my Citalopram first thing in the morning. I was on 20mg and am now taking 40mg. I was interested in the other answer about if it is taken too late the person has trouble sleeping as I have found that although I have to take sleeping tablets (Zopiclone) I still have a problem getting to sleep. Having read what I have I will now investigate and see if it is the days when I am later taking the Citalopram that the problem arises.

I've only just started taking it, and on the first couple of days I took it in the morning but found that by 11/12 I was flaking out at my desk. So yesterday I took it at 7pm, and slept pretty well. So I think I'm one of the people that gets tired from it. I had heard that in general it's best to take SSRIs in the morning tho - but I don't know why.

I'm finding it has a pretty immediate effect too, as only been taking it a few days as feeling better already.

I take it in the evening because it makes me drowsy - but , as you can see it makes other people wide awake. Judge for yourself. Make sure that what ever time you take it that you take it at the same time every day - it is important to get into a routine. Try high strength omega fish oils too. They help take the edge off.

Hi.

unlike everyone else, i found it best to take it before bedtime. it made me feel pretty zoncked about an hour or so after taking it, so it helped me sleep and left me feeling *awake* in the day time. i'd say, experiment to find what suits you best. but bear in mind that it takes about a week for any changes you make to the routine to settle down.

I know it has already been said, but I thought I would re-inforce the message by repetition - it is best to take it in the morning as it can cause problems with sleep.
