Volvo 850/1993. The lamp placed on the right side of the control screen, which indicates electronic problems, switched on yesterday. I am in the place without any reliable car servis.
The first proper mechanic is 500 km away. I am wondering can I continue driving with this lamp on or not? What kind of specific problems I may expect? thanks in advance for your kind answer

If you have an owner's manual it should tell you what this light is, usually the lights in red mean do not drive, pull over and the amber lights mean there is a problem somewhere in the system but you are able to drive it. The computer goes into a default mode so it's driveable while shutting down the specific component that is not working. If this is the case see how it feels and drive carefully until you can get it into a garage to scan it for trouble codes.

Is it an orange triangle with a green L shaped sign in the center? If so you have a lambda problem, the e,c,m has noticed that one of the sensor's (eg) h ,e, g ,o or m, a, f or c, t, s are not reading proper, the car could be running lean or rich, if you run a car with a cat on a rich mixture its very possible that you can over heat the cat and damage the delicate metals inside, catalytic converters are not the cheapest,on the other hand you could drive it for months and you could be fine, just be care full,, How's the cars performance at the min?, does it idle OK?, does it misfire?, does it cut out?? have a good look around the all the little and large pipe's that go into the throttle housing and the idle control valve, run the engine, normally if one of the smaller pipe's is leaking you will hear a hissing noise, squeeze and separate the larger pipe ribs on the pipe from the air box to the throttle housing, if its ripped repair with some duct tape, really all comes down to if its the light i have described!! talk to ya soon

Do not worry-better to either risk the drive or if it's possible ,have it towed than to have inept service performed-likely the costs and damages from such mechanics will be greater harm than the drive-i'd carry a spare battery if possible or one of those auxillary power supplies that are capable of "jump"starting in case of a falure of your charging system-also keep all accessories off,if possible and drive during daytime to lessen electical usage.
