My 22 month old started vomiting profusely last Thursday. We took him to the doctor and then to the hospital where they kept an eye on him over night. He got better and was fine Saturday and Sunday but the sickness started again on Monday. He was taken back into hospital and put on a drip until Wednesday. He was fine until Thursday morning but has started to be sick again.
We don't know what is wrong. The only thing that is different is that we have had a kitten.Could it be something to do with that or is it just a virus that is persistant. Would be grateful for some advice!

I did mention to the nuses about the kitten but they didn't seem to think that I should worry about that. I'm not so sure and am thinking about finding a home for it. I am going to see how he is over night and if he is no better then I will phone the doctor again. He did just have a piece of toast and some Dioralyte in some squash so I'm hoping that he will keep it down. He doesn't have any food allergies I'm sure, as I would have noticed before now. Thanks to all who have replied so far.

My twins went through this at about the same age. They threw up and had diarrhea for 2 weeks straight. The doctors (after many trips) told us it was a virus. Almost like the flu. They said that a virus in a toddler will tend to last about 2 weeks. I was told that just to keep them hydrated and that it would run its course. I'm sorry that your son is sick.

Edit: They also said that as long as he has tears and has some drool...then he is hydrated. I also had my neighbor check him and she is a pediatric er nurse.

You're probably not going to like this answer, but you need to get back to the hospital - or even better - a different hospital - perhaps a children's hospital.

Vomitting for 7 days on and off with a 22 month old can be very serious. They need to do some tests until they rule out the nastier possibilities and arrive at the conclusion that it is just a persistent virus.

You could also mention having acquired a kitten - animals can carry all sorts of nasty diseases with them (toxoplasmosis for one which can give you flu-like symptoms). Don't fool around with this - get him back in the care of a doctor today.

Hope he's better soon.

Sounds like your baby has a virus to me. Not sure about the kitten. Take baby back to the doctors as soon as you can. He should never have been sent home until he was well and all tests were clear. 7 days is too long for a baby being sick.

Hope he gets well soon, take care

My son is 8 months previous. a million. He beverages 6-7 oz. each and every 3 hours. each and every so often he will in easy terms have a sprint at a time, nonetheless. 2. throughout the time of the night, he will awaken a minimum of as quickly as for a bottle. If he's in mattress with the help of 10:30 pm (previous due, i comprehend, yet that's whilst Mommy sleeps too), he will want a bottle at approximately 2-4 am.

Look, anyone still vomiting after this length of time needs in depth investigation. Take him back to the Dr or A&E and refuse to leave until he is seen to, it may well be the kitten or a virus, but I would insist that he has tests to find out whats wrong. Have they checked for a hernia or something like that?

My best wishes go to you and your family, I know how horrible it is when one of your kids is ill.

sounds like they should keep your child in there for longer then a night or two just to find out what is wrong with your child. what you are you feeding him could be making him ill like a food allergy. He seems to be ill when he is at home and not in the hospital is there anyone that is around him a lot when this happens.I'm not saying someone in the family is making him sick but i would look into this.

Go back to the hospital and dont move until they treat your child. Vomiting this much will cause dehydration which is why they put put a drip in. My daughter had a similar problem when she was a baby i refused to move and they admitted her until she was better you deserve peace of mind and your child deserves the proper care.

Maybe it's food related... I'v enever heard of cat allergies causing vomiting. Vomiting for 7 days doesn't seem right to me... I'd call the doctor again, and at least update him on what's going on.
