Guidelines suggest that babies shouldn't have anything other than breast milk or formula till they are 6 months old. Although babies develop at different rates so a lot of people start sooner. Babies tummies are very sensitive and therefore shouldn't be given things like chocolate till they are older. i think your sister should speak to her mother in law and explain that she has probably made the baby ill by giving her chocolate and ask her not to do it again.

The Mother-in-Law is the idiot who gave a baby of five months chcolate and sweets. She should never be allowed to be alone with the baby. I would be called CPS and reporting her for child abuse and endangerment.

Did the doctor know about the sweets/chocolate? A baby's body is not ready for that kind of food, etc. Have a talk with your sister and advise her to keep The Sweet Fairy away from the baby unless another adult is supervising.

Yes they can.I breast fed my son and he was very colicky.I couldn't eat chocolate b/c the caffeine in it caused colic and the doctor limited the sweets I could eat.Grandmas usually don't keep up with what's current in childcare and they all think they know better but they can end up hurting the child.Talk to your sister.
